[15:50] Emm'esta Thiadil (emmaline.mynx) lets her mind wander as she stitches the handkerchief. It was to be embroidered with initials in script and given as a gift. She didn't recognize the initials, but she would do her best to make it something precious--not just any old handkerchief.
[15:51] Rei Anundr Aldin (rei.lowtide) opened the door to the seamstress. His eyes flickered around the room, taking in a plethora of bright colors. His face twisted as if all the cheerful colors displeased him. The sight of the worker though was pleasant enough, making it easier to feign friendliness. He stood still for a long moment - she appeared to be really lost in her craft. "Hello," he spoke, it was more of an announcement of his presence then a greeting. "I need a hood."
[15:54] Emm'esta Thiadil (emmaline.mynx) put the sewing down when the door opened. If no one knocked, it was a sure customer, and she needed those. Standing, she bowed formally. It was an elf thing. "We can help you with that." The "We" was really just her, but she had big dreams of a plethora of employees some day. "Did you want a hood that attaches to a cape or just a hood?"
[15:57] Rei Anundr Aldin (rei.lowtide) nodded his head as she stood, pleased with her manners. His eyes crossed over her work station and the materials behind her. "Just a hood," he answered her, knowing what he wanted. "In black." Capes would get caught on trees and other edges, that was no good for an escape. Her clothing did appear nice, hopefully she could make this for him without trouble and swiftly.
[15:59] Emm'esta Thiadil (emmaline.mynx) nodded. "I can do that. Wool, I suppose you'll be wanting. It is warmer and repels water better. How roomy do you want it?" He looked a tad nefarious, but you never knew. Most people didn't come in and announce they needed a hood to hide their identity.
[16:04] Rei Anundr Aldin (rei.lowtide) took a moment for this question. "A little extra cloth is good," he requested while watching her. He began to wonder how common of an order this was.
[16:05] Emm'esta Thiadil (emmaline.mynx) nodded once more. "And how soon do you need it?" She didn't tell him that other than the handkerchief, he was her only customer of the day. She could have it done by the morrow.
[16:10] Rei Anundr Aldin (rei.lowtide): "Sooner opposed to later," he answered her. Atleast she was straight to business. He began to appreciate her efforts more. "I figure I should get these items before its too cold and everyone is in line..." Small talk. He was out of practice. "How much will this be?"
[16:11] Emm'esta Thiadil (emmaline.mynx) raised an eyebrow, doing some quick figures. "That will be 40 coppers, and I'll have it ready by this time tomorrow." She would have it ready far earlier than that, but she always left a little wiggle room in case some catastrophe occurred.
[16:14] Rei Anundr Aldin (rei.lowtide): "Forty coppers?!" he repeated in disbelief. He was bargaining now, this, he wasn't out of practice at. He turned to the door, putting his hands on the knob. "Forget it, I can rig one me'self," he said in a poor-commoner accent. His cloak and clothing appeared as dirty rags, but that sword on his belt looked valuable as did the bracers on his arms..
[16:16] Emm'esta Thiadil (emmaline.mynx) hadn't been an elf for 132 years for nothing. She said sweetly, "No worries then. Remember me to your friends. Wool is dear here on the island and a man of your stature can pull off wearing a bag over his head, I'm sure. Come again," and she waited to see if he was really bluffing or not.
[16:19] Rei Anundr Aldin (rei.lowtide): "What are so special about your hoods that they could possibly be 40 coppers? The last town I was in I got this full cloak for that price!" he argued with her, turning to glance only over his shoulder while keeping his back. He was lying though, he had this cloak for over a decade. It had been dragged through the dirt in all these years.
[16:22] Emm'esta Thiadil (emmaline.mynx) eyed the frayed and worn cloak he sported, revealing none of her thoughts that he had stolen it from the bottom of a box used to house a litter of puppies. "I am sure your cloak was once of fine quality." Fifteen years ago! But she didn't add that. "Counting the time in making the wool cloth, there will be almost twenty hours of work in your hood. A hood that will probably last the rest of your life." From the look of him, it would only have to last about a week. "No, honored friend, 40 coppers is a bargain." If she wasn't an elf, she would have sniffed!
.
[16:24] Rei Anundr Aldin (rei.lowtide): "Thirty-coppers," he offered curtly, turning his back to the door but lingering close by it. This one was rather sharp for a mere craftswoman.
[16:26] Emm'esta Thiadil (emmaline.mynx) almost grinned, but she didn't. She had him! Hook, line, and sinker. "I tell you what. Since I am trying to build my clientel, I will take the loss on the hood and let you have it for a mere 35 coppers. Though, I beg most humbly that you not reveal to anyone else the bargain I gave you. People from all over the island will be at my door begging for such a deal as your are getting today!" She was smooth alright!
[16:29] Rei Anundr Aldin (rei.lowtide) offered another small smile. "Deal." Hey, you never pay the opening price.... but it wasn't as far down as he would have liked. He turned his back, cracking the door open to leave. "You are good at business," he tossed the compliment her way. Hopefully the hood would look as sharp as her tongue had been. Off he went, he had other items to grab.
[16:30] Emm'esta Thiadil (emmaline.mynx) watched him go, the grin finally washing over her face. A paying customer! It was a good day.
.[16:33] Rei Anundr Aldin (rei.lowtide) was out of sight... but only took moments to return. Their quick-smooth haggling deal had been decimated by his returned awkwardness. "Twenty now, 15 when its finished," he said, putting the coins on her desk. "Do you know which way to the magic shop?" The haggle was over, he could show his ignorance on topics now.
[16:35] Emm'esta Thiadil (emmaline.mynx) quickly hid her victorious smile when the man returned, pointing to the northwest. "Out of Aberynth, pass by the painting pavilion. Keep walking on past the entrance to lower Aberynth and you will go right to it." She didn't tell him that she worked there, too sometimes.
[16:36] Rei Anundr Aldin (rei.lowtide): "Diolle lle," he said, moving quickly out the door for a second time. The elvish just slipped out, he didn't mean it. He silently chastised himself as he left - he shouldn't be using that old language. People might recognize him.
[16:39] Emm'esta Thiadil (emmaline.mynx) cocked one of her long elven ears as the man said farewell to her in Elvish. What the heck? Now her curiosity was stirred. Not a good thing. No. She chewed on her lower lip for a long moment before turning and quickly pulling down the bolt of wool. Good thing she already had some of it dyed black. He wouldn't have been getting the hood on the morrow if she'd had to dye it.
