[15:50] The Auguriis Magic and Oddities Shop: As you walk into the Auguriis, you are hit with an estrangement of different scents that are spread across the store; multiple herbs and magical ingredients, the occasional love potion, old books and scrolls, leather. An overly energetic and perky blonde haired male, Damien, is currently attending the store. Organizing and cleaning to his hearts content! Those with a magical ability will be able to sense that this store has been warded against thieves.
[15:52] Lιттle ƬreeLιттle Ƭree (cedar.ashland) couldn't do anything but grin wider for the interest both women seemed to hold. "Aye, aye," she said with small nods of her head. And since things were desired, they began to appear. Out came an armful of wyvern hide, a lovely hue like burnt sienna and very good quality, no scuffs or tears. "Jus' tha hides ye be wantin' then?" she asked the blonde. She set these in a pile, and it was a large amount of leather there for the elven maid did she decide to purchase it all in the end. For the wyvern had been a healthy size and Cedar'd lost very little of the skin when she'd tanned the hide. "twenty-five siller do ye well?" she asked with a lofted brow - but a smile turned towards the brunette, to let the woman know she'd heard her interest in the other aspects of the wyvern that Cedar had named.
[15:54] Emm'esta ThiadilEmm'esta Thiadil (emmaline.mynx) nodded, knowing Meri knew a good thing when she saw it. Wyvern blood! "I'll take the smaller bones then--they are better for buttons." She'd set them out to dry in the sun then burn them for color. Oh, yes...they would be perfect. And the hide she would turn over to Ciel, see what he could do with it. That skin could bring a pretty price once fashioned into any number of things...a purse, perhaps, for one. She nodded a friendly greeting to the male who entered. "Be right with you, sir." At Cedar's suggestion of 25 silvers, Emms purely sputtered! "Twenty-five silvers! Why I could skin my own mother and make her into hoods and cloaks for Twenty-five silvers!" It was bargaining time!
[15:56] Merialeth WindstarMerialeth Windstar (caireannliadan)'s eyes darted away from the contents of the satchel as the door was opened and another figure passed through. Leaving Emms to handle what she needed to first, with a dash of a smile towards the other woman, Meri'd grin as the haggling began and stepped around the counter to greet the new arrival "Good afternoon and welcome, what can I help you with?" Her eyes widening at the opening offer, rarity it might be, but c'mon! Meri would however, carefully note the methods as well.
[16:00] Jace Blackwell: Entered the magic shop, metal clanking about as he moved. He would glance around curiously once again, his gaze resting momentarily at that odd spinning bookcase he never seemed to cease wondering about. He would nod his understanding to the pretty blond woman as he made himself busy looking at odds and ends on the nearby table when the Elven Brunette approached him. "Ah yes well....I've come to see about the possibility of learning about..magic. What does it mean to those who can use it, how it feels....how to begin learning. I assume this would be the place to begin?" Jace answered hesitantly, clearly out of his area of knowledge at this point. knowledge at this point. [16:04] Lιттle ƬreeLιттle Ƭree (cedar.ashland) tilted her head at the blonde's outburst and gave a faint grin. "Aye .. but wuid yer maither be sae fine a sight ta be worn as yon wyvern hide then lass?" She reached back into her satchel, pushing this and that aside until bits of small bone were brought out, fair and bleached white from the way they'd been cleaned. "Now there's a guid lot o' leather as can be worked from those hides. More'n a few pieces ta be made." Twisting, Cedar set a handful of small, fine bones atop the pile. "Twenty-five sillers an' ye can hae tha wee bones ta go wi'."
[16:07] Emm'esta ThiadilEmm'esta Thiadil (emmaline.mynx) began to go through the skins, picking up each one and blowing back the fur. "This one seems a little mis-colored, don't you think?" And then, "I don't know about this one...there's an arrow hole right through the center. I'll have to cut it up." Light, but they were beautiful skins! But she'd never admit that for one second. When Jace asked that he might be allowed to learn magic, Emms beamed. Every time she found a seeker, it was a little like birthday magic...when she lit the candles with a snap of her fingers and her atar would blow them out with a pretend breath of a nostril. How she missed him, missed his magical training. He'd been tough, but only because he wanted her to be as strong as she could be. She knew that Meri would do the same with this man, and she envied him the journey. She turned her attention back to the trade-in-progress. "Why, they're not worth more than ten silvers, even with the bones thrown in." She hid the excitement at seeing the bones already finished. "But you've got me [16:07] Emm'esta Thiadil: over a barrel and I'll pay the ten silvers, though you have to swear not to tell anyone else or they'll be coming from miles around to take me to the cleaners on every deal I make from now on!" She did love a good haggle!
[16:11] Merialeth WindstarMerialeth Windstar (caireannliadan) gave the man a reassuring smile, the timidity in his voice quite at odds with the armored appearance, her ears still perked for the conversation to the side, a lift of one brow and soft snort offered at the difference with 'adding the bones' - still quite the request to be sure, but as Emm resettled and bounced back her offer, Meri'd let the barest of grins pass her lips, though at the same time, knew full well, what would come next. "You are in quite the right place indeed sir.. If is theoretical knowledge you're wanting then, or practical, and something specific you're working towards, or soloely the expression of it in general." The woman's accent was catching and she felt the cadence of her own words start to slip into some of the same patterns, pulling herself back with a faint chuckle on her breath and warm murmur "There's lots of possibilities of places to start, and just as many of where to end up." The resolute dip of her head as the carousel continued to spin, and that one bottle still [16:11] Merialeth Windstar: glowed faintly in the background, while Meri continued to peruse his face.
[16:15] Lιттle ƬreeLιттle Ƭree (cedar.ashland) snorted a sound derisively good natured and tossed her hair. "There'd no' be a speck upon that hide, lass. Nor any holes, aye? An' dint ye be insultin' my craftsmanship forbye." Though they sounded like fighting words, they were spoken with a good humored tone of voice and a crooked grin and Cedar simply shook her head. "Ten sillers an' I'd be destitute on tha streets! Fer shame tryin' ta rob me blind an' I'd all but brought ye tha best as cuid be had. D'ye ken a'tall how dangerous yon wyvern's be? Why ... ye canna get them a'tall unless ye go on inta the deep woods where tha mana's ripe an' makin' tha beasties absurd!" A pause, where Cedar seemed as if she were considering, and then, "Twenty sillers then. An' mum's tha word, I wint be tellin' a soul." [16:17] Jace Blackwell: "All of that I think. Or it seems it's all rather important to understand when dealing with energies like this. I"m looking to join the Numinous Blades and as a Paladin, use those skills as a Warden to aid me in the Righteous Cause against the shadelings! Where best to start, I trust whomever shall be my mentor to know best." Jace exclaimed, standing perhaps a little taller, his face clearly betraying a bit of pride in his chosen path as he looked directly into the elven womans eyes with determination.
[16:21] Emm'esta ThiadilEmm'esta Thiadil (emmaline.mynx) slapped her hand on the counter hard enough to make them all jump. "Why, twenty silvers is enough to buy my whole business and mass produce wyvrn products wholesale!" She eyed Cedar, appraising the hunter, then said slyly, "You know, I am in the position to buy most all your hides. Just think at the future business you could have. And fifteen silvers is a veritable fortune in Valesk. You could rule as a king, I say!" She pulled the leather purse from her belt and counted out fifteen silvers, laying them in row on the counter. "Fifteen silvers and a ton of future business, aye?"
[16:25] Lιттle ƬreeLιттle Ƭree (cedar.ashland) eyed the blonde with a shrewd and calculating eye, then let her gaze lower to the coin being produced and her gaze narrowed with thought. "Aye an' think o' all the leather an' hide as I cuid bring ta ye in tha future lass. Fer when did ye last hae somat as tha hide o' a wyvern enter in tha shop ta be bought?" Cedar grinned broad then and lifted her chin, mischief glimmering in her eyes. "Eighteen sillers then - an' ta future business done, aye?"
[16:26] Merialeth WindstarMerialeth Windstar (caireannliadan) tipped her head, the boastful attitude and the comment of Wardens themselves making Meri lift her brows skyward, the flash of bright green gaze as she kept listening to the two haggling, the fifteen offered by Emms met with the barest dip of her head, and a wry glance cast over at the fellow shop mate before the man's words reached her ears again. "Well two out of three will serve you best, I can help you in the magic department, the rest - I've either ne'er heard of.." that accent was pulling at her ears for sure, so smoothly even! "Never heard off... or have no interest in. However, the theory and practice of magic in general, that is something I can do to help... What have you in trade for the lessons...?" Her own faint glimmer in her gaze as she continued to peruse him, the faintly-bemused grin lighting her features as he stiffened and brought his gaze to her.
[16:30] Emm'esta ThiadilEmm'esta Thiadil (emmaline.mynx) counted out TWO more silvers and laid them along side the others. "Seventeen silvers and years of future business!" She held out her arm for a wrist to wrist elven handshake. "Bargain struck?" Those skins were going to bring her in much business, she was sure. They were beautiful and Emms knew what she could do with them. "I am Emm'esta Thiadil, by the way. I think you are a robber and a thief when it comes to the art of haggling and I think I love you." She flashed her that smile that melted hearts and made fast friends. [16:32] Jace Blackwell: "Trade? I carry very little by way of possession. Some clothes, the armor and weapons I have on my person and some coin. Depending on how much lessons would set me back, i can offer coin now or in the near future once I've acquired more. Unless you're looking for service of some sort in trade?" Jace would once more glance around the store before continueing on "Though I think it not likely a place such as this would need any sort of guard to keep watch at night."
[16:34] Lιттle ƬreeLιттle Ƭree (cedar.ashland) watched the extra silver get counted -- one shy of the amount she'd named - and then the small fae laughed. "Aye, tha'll do then," she said. Future business - sounds grand." But she cast a wary eye to the hand offered, seeming to hesitate a moment before grasping the other to shake on a deal done.
[16:36] Merialeth WindstarMerialeth Windstar (caireannliadan) couldn't help it, her expression trying to hold firm, but the glimmer in her gaze grew as she continued to listen to the pair at her side. The reply met with a tilt of her head the other way, the soft rustling as she considered him rather openly then bit back the faint grin and nodded more politely "Coin could also be a trade, I prefer to leave it open-ended and see what the other party offers." A shrug of one shoulder, that soft rustle again as she continues "What do you think the lessons are worth to you?" Her eyes catching the movement from the side, dipping her head to herself and still keeping mental track, the bones and pile of hides perused once more quickly then returned her gaze to the man and waited for his reply.
[16:38] Emm'esta ThiadilEmm'esta Thiadil (emmaline.mynx) continued to hold out her hand for the shake. She was all business and that handshake to her was as good as a contract signed in blood. She'd listened to Jace's words...here he was a human, wanting to learn magic. This would be very interesting, and she hoped she would be included in his lessons sometimes. Her arm was growing heavy and she wondered if the deal was good or not.... [16:43] DaisukeDaisuke (fangmassacre) wandered through the village, staring at the signs hanging over the establishments, seeing as he could not read the common tongue well, he tended to look for symbols or markings that he understood. He first went by the seamstress as he promised to stop in and visit, but a quick peek inside revealed it was a little empty, so the stag took to the streets and headed over to the next building, his cloven hoofs clicking over the stone until he paused when reaching the door. He failed to see a sign though, so raising his fist he gently knocked on the door to see if someone would answer, he was to polite to just walk in, encase it happened to be a home. [16:44] Jace Blackwell: "Worth to me? Well I wouldn't know in terms of money or trade. It's just a necessary part in what I aspire to be. I suppose looking at it as a service, like if I were to teach someone the ways around a forge, I might charge a sum in coppers fair in proportion to what one would earn from their given profession." Jace answered after some thought, clearly unsure of the economy and pricing of services in Valesk. [16:45] Lιттle ƬreeLιттle Ƭree (cedar.ashland) shook the arm! She just was hesitant about grabbing hold the other when it'd been offered becau-- well there it was. Cedar's skin brushed the blonde's and her fingers zipped with a tingling like lightning run through. Her breath drew in quick and eyes unfocused with a flutter of lash as sensation, emotion, and sights danced along her mind. "Nnngh ... /aye then/," she stumbled out, tongue tripping over itself before she snatched her hand away from the blonde's arm. A few shallow breaths and a smile forced itself to surface on her face, her hand scooping the silver coins towards her that'd been piled beside the wares.
[16:48] Emm'esta ThiadilEmm'esta Thiadil (emmaline.mynx) looked at her own hand for a quick moment, wondering if she'd been lax with controlling her element. It had happened before. But surely not....her skin couldn't have been that hot. "Agreed then! Done and done," and she swept the skins and bones off the counter, putting them back behind it. They were hers and she felt like doing a victory dance. "Diola lle, Cedar. I look forward to a long and prosperous relationship."
[16:48] Merialeth WindstarMerialeth Windstar (caireannliadan) watched them shake out of the corner of her eye, the glance from him towards Emm and back as she considered a moment then nodded in thought at his answer, only to hear the sound of... the door being knocked on? "Come in... " She'd call over then looked back to the blond, considering him and his reply both.... "Well, I'll let you think on that a little bit. In the meanwhile, you and Emm'esta here, she will be your instructor. When you think you've determined what the power of Magic means to you, and what you're willing to exchange for it, then you both can start the lessons." It might have seemed a strange response, but for someone who Magic was as inherent as breathing? Well then... She'd miss the other woman's reaction, too directly focused on the man.
[16:54] DaisukeDaisuke (fangmassacre) heard the welcome so he opened the door, stepping forward only to be halted awkwardly as his antlers ran into the top of the door frame scraping in a dent. He gave a deep snort and looked up, seeing the slight damage and winced "Oh! no... I am so sorry about that!" he started to apologize as he ducked down and stepped inside and closed the door behind him, turning inward toward the people red in the face embarrassed. A hand reached up to rub along the spot of his antler that had connected with the wooden frame. "I will find a way to fix that damage, if you want coin or the labor to fix it, I could sand and buff it out..." he said and then realized there were two familiar faces "Oh, well... hello, Miss Emm'esta and Miss Merialeth" he said, still looking quite sheepish. To the others he gave a nod, but he was having trouble looking anyone in the face for the blunder he just made coming in.
[16:59] Lιттle ƬreeLιттle Ƭree (cedar.ashland) still felt a bit numbed and ran a tongue over the ridges of her teeth as she pulled the pile of silver her way. "Aye an' tha same," she said absently, far more attentive to the setting of coins in her purse than the conversation that'd just come to an end. Once the silver were all squared away, her coin purse far heavier for the business done, Cedar glanced over to the brunette and quirked a brow. "Ye still busy wi' yon knight?" she asked the woman, hand reaching out to pull her satchel closer to her since there seemed more traffic in the shop
[17:01] Emm'esta ThiadilEmm'esta Thiadil (emmaline.mynx) almost swallowed her tongue when she Meri said that Emms would be the human's teacher. Light! What was she thinking? But then...what would her atar think? He'd be proud, that's what! She eyed her would-be student. It was a special relationship between student and teacher. Did he realize just how special? He might hate her and love her at the same time. Frustration, victory, joy, depression...all these things in abundance would be his path. Emm'esta took a deep breath, inhaling all the possibilities of what might be. It tasted good. It was then that Daisuke entered--a deer in a china shop. She couldn't help but smile. He was one of the most kind-hearted individuals she'd met on the island. "It is alright, friend Daisuke. I will repair it." Most elves could Sing wood, and Emms was no exception. "It is good to see you!"
[17:02] Jace Blackwell: nodded his head in agreement. "I shall ponder this tonight. Maybe research a bit on what is a fair or customary trade for such services and meet up with you or Emm'esta to reach an arrangement. Thank you for your time." Jace responded evenly, looking first to Merialeth and then to Emm'esta. "Oh pardon me, introductions are likely in order! I'm Jace. Jace Blackwell." He said to the both of them before his attention was given over to the antlered man as he seemed to cause a bit of a scene upon entering. He would offer a polite nod, unsure of what exactly he was seeing as this was the first time he had encountered such a creature.
[17:05] Merialeth WindstarMerialeth Windstar (caireannliadan) winced more for how that had to have felt against his antlers, the slight shake of her head, shiver running through her and the soft rustling sounding at the movement. A reassuring glance offered upwards as the Satyr made his way in "Good afternoon, as Emm said, it's good to see you again. All well, I would hope?" then shifted her attention back to the brunette, her lips parting to speak then catching Jace's words, just nodded "See, all done." to the brunette and offered a smile to Jace "Very well, just speak to Emm when you return, and we'll work it out from there." Only then finally noting that the brunette seemed a little out of sorts still "So about that wyvern blood... How big of a vial, and how many teeth left?" Meri'd slip around the far side of the chair and tip her head so that Emm could move to speak with the man, while she gave Daisuke another reassuring grin, "No worries, truly - there are far worse things... to be sure."
[17:09] Lιттle ƬreeLιттle Ƭree (cedar.ashland) scooted a bit down the counter that she sat upon, though there wasn't very far that she could go before she ran into the candles. And because she sat so near now, she looked over her shoulder and puffed a breath to blow one out. Hooved feet upon wooden floor caught her attention and she turned a glance towards the large, swarthy individual who'd entered the shop - in time, it seemed, for him to be chagrined about some damage his antlers'd done. Cedar grinned at him, listening to the two elves reassure and greet, then twisted about where she sat to look towards the brunette. "This ..." she said, pulling out a vial the length of her small hand to show the lass. "An' I've mebbe ten teeth left. More really, but there'd be some as I'd keep fer myself, aye? Wuid ye be wantin' an eye then mebbe? Or I've tha tongue still as weel."
[17:15] Emm'esta ThiadilEmm'esta Thiadil (emmaline.mynx) made her way to stand before the human....Jace. Jace Blackwell. A very human name. He would not have two or three hundred years to perfect his magic, to strengthen and refine it. She would have to be a hammer rather than a gentle hand. She eyed him up and down once more. Could he take it? She bowed deeply and said in Elvish, "Elen sila lumenn omentilmo," then repeated it in Common, "May a star shine upon the hour of our meeting." And she meant it.
[17:16] DaisukeDaisuke (fangmassacre) gave a grateful bow, similar to how an easterner might act. "Thank you for your kindness on the matter, Im still sorry though" he said, but he would fuss over something as superficial as a dent in a door frame nobody would probably ever notice. Still the stag glanced toward the door with a fretful gaze before he tried to push it aside and focus on the two ladies he had recently met, though now that he was taking in the scene, they all seemed pretty busy "I came to visit as I promised I would. But it seems your a bustling business tonight" he mused, not taking any offense of course, it was not in his nature to do so very easily. He caught the glance from Little Tree and the nod from Jace and simply gave both a warm smile before she got back to her business. "Perhaps Ill visit another time" he then added as he did not want to crowd in on their important transactions.
[17:20] Merialeth WindstarMerialeth Windstar (caireannliadan) nodded to the brunette, her own veiled interest finally showing, a soft snort on her breath as she perused the vial and considered it a moment before nodding "Hm... ten teeth, the eye... Only one? You're keeping the other or, was it damaged in the fight perhaps?" A moment's pause in consideration as she perused the woman's face then nodding once more as she continued "... the tongue for sure, and did you salvage any of the claws perhaps?" Her fingertips tapping lightly at the counter as she leaned forward to peer into the satchel if she could. Meri in business mode was quite a bit different than her usual more retiring sort, her gaze more direct and the characteristic blushes strangely missing.
[17:21] Emm'esta Thiadil: ((Sorry, guys! I've GOT to go! Hubby is being petulant! BIG hugs and thanks for the rp)) Emms moved toward the door, carefully stepping around Daisuke. "I need to check on the shop. And you," she pointed to Jace, "I will see very soon." Be afraid. Very afraid. [17:21] Jace Blackwell: Gazes at his would be teacher as she speaks first in her eloquent graceful tongue, and then once again in his own. "Poetic words, beautiful even. I've no talent for such speech I'm afraid. I will say I am glad to have the fortune of having met you and look forward to your teaching...hopefully starting tomorrow. Until then..." Jace replied, offering her a salute, fist raised to his chest as he bowed slightly, turning to head for the exit.
[17:23] DaisukeDaisuke (fangmassacre) would also head for the exit, seeing as Merialeth was deep in bargaining. But he gave a small wave and dip of his head as he moved back to the door, opening it up as he prepared to leave.

[14:38] Merialeth WindstarMerialeth Windstar (caireannliadan) blinked out of trance as she caught the passage of a figure and heard the door of the shop open. Shaking her head to herself and the soft mutter of sound with a bashful glance given, she'd slip within the door, then settled her bow and her quiver to the back of the counter as she dashed the man from the night before a smile. "Welcome back... how can I help you?"
[14:40] Jace Blackwell: Entered the Auguriis, a slight grin on his youthful face as he glanced about wonderously once more at the oddities on display, particularly that revolving bookcase. "Greetings again! I"ve given it some thought over night and come to what I think is a fair offer. I imagine this to be a service, much like a meal at the Inn, so in light of that I offer say 20 coppers to learn to use magic! With any luck, I'll be one of the Numinous Blades by nightfall!" Jace exclaimed excitedly.
[14:45] Merialeth WindstarMerialeth Windstar (caireannliadan)'s usual polite demeanour and her unhurried calm couldn't help but be affected by his seeming logic. Her head tilting somewhat perusing him, lips parting to speak, then snapping shut... then parting again as she frankly, just stared a moment. "Forgive me, I must have not quite heard you correctly... May I inquire to what level you equate a point of lifelong learning to a one night's stay with a roof over your head?" Her words soft as always but faintly incredulous.... Thankfully Emma came in just then and hopefully heard Meri's words.
[14:51] Jace Blackwell: stared blankly a few moments, clearly not understanding any confusion. "Well, teaching the use of magic is a service....the Inn provides lodging and meals...also a service. And of course I'm not looking for a lifelong dedication to the mastery of such.....that would interfere with my calling....my duty to those in need. No no, just.....the ability to use magic. To understand it. For use in destroying evil, bringing an end to the shadelings and their ilk. I suspect we'll be done this very evening and I will be one step closer to becoming a paladin worthy of the Wardens!"
[14:55] Emm'esta ThiadilEmm'esta Thiadil (emmaline.mynx) eyed the would-be student. He'd not been accepted yet, and that equated to IF he were accepted. From what she'd heard of the conversation so far, he had little idea what he was asking. Very little. Infinitesimal! If Emm'esta had been human, she would have spit on the floor AFTER she'd thrown him out by the seat of his pants. Thankfully, for the young human's sake, she was an elf. "I fear your education so far in all aspects of magic is sorely lacking. Sorely. In one lesson, for one silver, I will teach you the names of the different kinds of magic and tell you a fraction of what they intell--the first few, anyway. It is the same information you can read from a book that you would buy in the book store. To learn magic is to change your chemical make up--your life. I think you are in no wise prepared for such. Keep your silver and go buy a book." Her voice was beautiful, lilting...so her words sounded like a blessing even though she rebuked him.
[15:02] Merialeth WindstarMerialeth Windstar (caireannliadan) wasn't often taken aback, and her usually unruffled manner had served her for over a century... but this? This ... impertinent... well - a child in her book, though the fact of their shorter lives may have explained a bit away of his enthusiasm but still! Meri'd shift her gaze to Emma, listening as she spoke, then just nodded softly in return and brought that bright green gaze back to bear on the one who'd requested, so much more than he had any idea of. Her head tipping a moment, one side, then the other... then spun on her toes to peruse the scrollcase again. That soft burst of Song, the faint descant from her lips as her fingers traced over the shelves, up higher til she had to lift to her toes and only then did a scroll seem to glow at her fingers' reach. She'd wiggle her hand, the scroll sliding into her grip, then returned back to where she stood and placed it atop the counter without even bothering to look within. The quiet words, finally offered, "I couldn't have phrased it better myself. [15:02] Merialeth Windstar: If you wish a taste of what Magic can do for you... then you can read this. It's not a tool, it's as much a way of life as being a true Warden, or any of the other Schools of Magic, like my own Devotion to Valeska Herself. It is not to be taken lightly. Read this over, and when you have decided if you are truly ready to devote yourself to the learning of Magic, then let us know."
[15:09] Jace Blackwell: First looked even more excited at Emm'esta's words replying "Oh?! All I need is a book? Excellent, this will be even easier than I thought. I can surely read a book by suppertime!" He would then look over to Merialeth, his enthusiastic grin thining rapidly as she spoke of lifelong devotions and small tastes of magic speaking uncertainly. "Lifelong...? How am I ever to join the blades if I have to spend my life learning magic?" He would cast his eyes down to the scroll, an eyebrow raised as he examined it intently, as if waiting for it to reveal some great secret.
[15:11] Emm'esta ThiadilEmm'esta Thiadil (emmaline.mynx) nodded to Meri as she made her way toward the door. "I'm expecting a customer. I will leave you with our young friend here." She told him as passed by, "Life is a journey with many forks in the road. The choice is yours."
[15:11] Eden slips inside the shop as another woman leaves ignoring the others around as she makes an immediate reach for the desk bell. Promptly ringing it twice, before the bell even stops resonating from the second ring she is barking an out of context request. "I need a fire that doesn't stop." She states while peering about the shop curiously.
[15:19] Merialeth WindstarMerialeth Windstar (caireannliadan) nodded to Emm, the soft murmur of "Never a worry - I'll talk to you in a little bit... " Her eyes shifting back to Jace as he spoke, the tip of her head as she murmured "Once you start on the path to learning Magic, if all you want to do is learn little cantrips, then certainly I suppose that it might be little parlor tricks and the like, but if you're wanting to learn a degree of Magic that will support you in your fight, and help you advance and be stronger in your skills, then it is not simply a 'next day' sort of thing... Just to learn the basics of Magic takes weeks... To advance weeks or months more... Every little bit building on the next. So yes it is a lifelong thing, should you wish to continue building your skills. But that is ultimately up to you." As the door opened and the dwarf came strutting in with banging on the bell, Meri'd just shift her gaze downwards, the lift of her brows as she politely murmured "When I am done with this customer, I'll be glad to work with you, just a [15:19] Merialeth Windstar: moment." then shifted her gaze back to Jace.
[15:28] Jace Blackwell: visibly perks up at the elf's explanation, still darting his gaze back and fourth between her and the scroll she had laid on the counter. "I see. I'm unsure as to how far I would need to take it, maybe more than a day. Certainly past parlor tricks though. As the stories imply, Paladins are capable of healing wounds, blessing their blades against infernal creatures, seeing truth through lies....creating barriers of protection. All fine abilities a warden should know. I don't think I would need much past similar magics. Certainly nothing like...well whatever else one could do with magic. I don't think....Emm'esta mentioned silver? Would lessons truly run so high? I'm beginning to think the isle is populated by nobility. Surely a much more affordable arrangement could be reached?" Jace asked beseechingly, hands up in a peaceful gesture as if warding off incoming anger.
[15:29] Eden smiled at the woman behind the counter and glanced about a bit more. Appearing antsy she wandered over to the skull giving it a light tap. "I bet she told you 'just a moment' too ehh?" she questioned the clearly long expired remains. "Your fire went out long ago, hmm, maybe I'll try down the way.." She mumbled softly before turning back to the woman attendant. "Oh thank you ma'am I'll find my way back when you're not so busy. Besides I don't want to steal the attention your man here and cause a fuss between two lovers. I need some other things as well so I'll venture about and leave ya in peace." She concluded, making her visit a short one as she went for the door.
[15:37] Merialeth WindstarMerialeth Windstar (caireannliadan) tipped her head listening to him speak again, her still-calm gaze taking in every word... the lifting of his hands as if to ward off a sudden fear of reprisal was met only with a soft purr of laughter, and the sparkle in her green gaze as she perused him idly. "Fear not, I'm not quite the sort to hop over counters and tear limbs from bodies... Your fears are unfounded truly..." It would take -far- more than something like this for Meri to cause physical harm, just for someone who, simply had a lot to learn. "To learn even a glimpse of what you could accomplish will take likely two weeks or more. It depends on your devotion, and your attention to detail. To learn all the sorts of things you're mentioning? That would be likely months to get enough of a grip on things... To master? More... But - that is entirely up to you and how you choose to learn, and what you are able to absorb." A moment's pause then 'Regarding the cost, yes, lessons are expensive, it's not like a night's stay in an inn. [15:37] Merialeth Windstar: Where you go one day, and are gone the next with little but a good-night's sleep behind you. It's an ongoing battle to learn and focus and grow." As the little dwarf chimed in again, Meri'd tip her head to the short figure, her brows lifting at the incorrect supposition, the soft purr of laughter again on her breath "Lovers, hardly though you are welcome to return when you have the time, of course. Fair travels to you."
[15:45] Jace Blackwell: "I see. Well I'm sure in time I could come up with the cost. When would lessons be? I think with a strictly regulated schedule, I could fit them in my day. If this training would take weeks or even months so be it. It is necessary for me to learn these things. Maybe I should return in a few hours? Later tonight?" Jace asked, looking sideways to the dwarf's comment about them, remaining silent about it as Merialeth had already cleared the air of that one.
[15:46] Eden lugged a large hammer over her shoulder and left the two strangers to their business, only giving each a half glance to see if her 'lovers' comment struck a chord with either of them. She pauses a brief moment as she went to leave, peering at the candles hanging from either side of the door. "Curious parlor trick, the wood doesn't burn.. I'll have to find a use for that one too. hmm"
[15:52] Merialeth WindstarMerialeth Windstar (caireannliadan) nodded towards where Emm had disappeared "The timing on the lessons you will need to work out with Emm'esta since she'll be your instructor... but yes - it will take time, but the benefits - if you truly apply yourself? Will be worth it." Her voice still soft as always, her gaze searching his as she studied him carefully, then shifted as the dwarf headed out, the comment quirking her lips as she gave a faintly indulgent smile then shifted her attention back to Jace. One shoulder shrugging softly as her arms laced lightly about her waist and she offered a soft smile.
[16:00] Jace Blackwell: Contorted his facial features momentarily, lost in a momentary debate within his mind before facing her once more replying "I'll return soon then to make the final arrangements with Emm'esta. Will 1 silver cover the cost of these lessons? I think I can manage that much at least." He would then turn his gaze to the door, eying the candles as well, noticing for the first time that they indeed didn't burn the wood so close to the flame. He would raise a brow curiously, seeming to examine this phenomena closely, his nostrils sniffing a few times trying to catch the scent of smoke or burning wood absentmindedly.
[16:05] Merialeth WindstarMerialeth Windstar (caireannliadan) considered a moment in return, her gaze steady on his.... then nodded "Since you'll be learning merely the first basics, then yes, I will allow one silver for your first set of lessons, but the cost will rise some as you progress, so you will need to keep that in mind." Her smile quirking up the corners of her lips as she caught his attention shift towards the candles, watching him, still bemused then finally adding "I look forward to hearing about your progress, Jace." That soft musical tone in her voice genuine, her expression softening as she adds "I really think you'll learn to love it... it's not easy, but... it's worth it. Truly."
[16:10] Jace Blackwell: "Perhaps. So it's settled then, I'll return in a few hours and see about beginning my lessons with Emm'esta....provided she has the time and is willing to begin. If not then perhaps tomorrow. Thanks you for your time." Jace commented as he turned to head for the door pausing briefly to look back over his shoulder. "Is there anything else I need to bring? Any special attire or book and quill?"
[16:11] Merialeth WindstarMerialeth Windstar (caireannliadan) nodded politely and murmured "I hope the rest of your day goes pleasantly... and no, nothing specific will be needed that I'm aware of, other than your mind, and your willingness to learn."
[16:13] Jace Blackwell: Nodded his understanding replying "Excellent. May the rest of yours be.....profitable?" Jace returned clearly not sure what the best form of well wishing would be for a shopkeeper before wandering off back into town.
[16:14] Merialeth WindstarMerialeth Windstar (caireannliadan) purred out merry laughter, the pure notes sounding in the air "So I could hope!" then waved as he disappeared out of sight.
