For months she had been trying to summon forth the creature.
For months even long before she had arrived on Valesk, months of frustration, hard work, careful preperations ... all for nothing!
Yesterday had been another one of those days. When finally settled into the tavern room, had everything unpacked and stocked at the ready, Shabah saw the stars being in a good alignment to try again.
The scent of incense came seeping from underneath her room, lit candles cast shadows on the rooms walls, making it come alive as Shabah's hands made intricate movements in the air as if painting invisible symbols in the nothingness.
Moaning incantations in a strange language that grew in intensity, becoming irate and frantic the longer it went on. She picked up one of her children, a poisonous black snake that she talked to for a moment as if it was her own child , right before slitting the creatures throat and spill its blood on the floor.
This was the moment of truth, the moment the demonic creature would appear or Shabah be left in anger and disappointment. She waited ... and nothing happened. No demon appeared, not even the scent of infernal stench filled the room. Absolutely nothing. At this point, Shabah threw the dead body of the snake away, not watching were she threw it in her rage as it hit the glass window at which a small crack appeared near the left bottom corner.
The hissing words coming from her mouth, even tho in a strange language, could be mistaken for nothing else but long and blasphemous. Cursing at the world, the elements, this island and everyone that lived on it in one breath.
She had failed yet again and couldn't for the love of Valeska figure out where she had gone wrong, what she had missed, something she had neglected to do or simply overlooked?
Nothing made any sense.
Having no choice but to clean everything up and wait for the next time the stars would appear in opportune alignment. She pulled a rug over the snake's blood, hiding it from the eyes of others and pulled the curtains closed, so hiding the crack she had made in the window's corner. The incense and candles was extinguished and Shabah, who had adopted the false name of Nolwenn some time ago readied herself for a night of restless sleep.
Only to wake again the next morning and head out, seeking for the more nefarious places that Valesk had to offer and so accidentally stumbled upon the Opium Den, bought herself some opiates and remained there for the rest of the day.
