Spell training "Implant memory" Start 04/11/15
1st step : Buying the scroll [12:09] Gavinox: Gavin was feeling grumbly. It was mid afternoon, the sun ws at its highest point and it made him feel like utter shit. That, and a friend he'd not seen in years kind of bolted on him, and he thought it was his fault and it likely was. Bleh, he'd have to meet up with her later. For now it was time to look for another friend of his, but it meant a very long, very hot climb up the hill of death to the magic school. "Ey....ey lady, can ya give me 'and please?" He didnt know the stranger on the hill, and he was aware he didnt look very friendly decked out head to toe in black and red cloth bt damnit this hill ws a bitch. "Aint feelin well..." And he was so close almost theeeere. Hello door! [12:14] Iesteth Windsong (gaiadarkmoor) frowns when she hears someone asking for her hand, not liking at all the idea of having a complete stranger touch her. She turns toward the voice and look at the man for a long time. He didn't seemed especially old or crippled so she feels like a trap. "I have a bit of herbs, they'll probably help you" she search into her bag and retrieves a few leaves, handing them out toward him with extreme cautious, ready to flee at any sign of a threat. [12:19] Gavinox: "It ent tha' kind a sick...." Pouting he just trudged up the hill another step or two until se was handing him herbs. "Oh... Thank ya but..." He tried to touch her hand to cur her fingers back to her palm to so she'd hold the herbs. "I cant use it." And he opened his mouth and poked a tongue at a fang. "Cant eat the damned thing. Were nice of ya ta offer though." [12:22] Iesteth Windsong (gaiadarkmoor) yelps and pulls on her hand fast when he dares to touch her. She frowns at the display of the fangs, guessing he must be some sort of werewolf, vampire or other kinds of dark beasts. "I see..." she says with a low melodious voice. "I guess you are visiting the tower. You're almost at it. I have to fetch a scroll there" [12:30] Gavinox: Jerked back at her reaction. "Well damn....I ent gonna 'urt ya, jumpy." Then again he supposed even someone that /would/ hurt her would say that. It made him frown. "I ent 'ave ta show ya the fangs I did it so-......nevah mind." She'd hurt his feelings. You'd think he'd be used to it by now but it still bothered him people didnt like him or didnt trust him based on what he was, even when he tried to be honest about it. Without another word he trudged up the rest of the hill, gave the big door a few pushes until he managed to get the damned hting opened and then half collapsed on the floor against the front of the desk. "I hate mornings." He muttered. [12:35] Iesteth Windsong (gaiadarkmoor) follows the man with caution, still not sure of his intention. She pushes lightly the door behind him and then sees he collapsed on the ground, lightly shaking her head at such a display of bad habits. "Greetings" she says politely to the woman into the back while walking around and trying to put some distance between her and the man. [12:38] Merialeth Windstar (caireannliadan) flicked a glance up as the door opened, her gaze darting from the scroll she'd been reading to the cloaked & hooded figure seeming to stumble within and flop against the counter. Had the voice not been faintly familiar, Meri'd've been more alarmed but as it was, there was the hint of recognition in the tones and she murmured "Welcome to the Auguriis, I believe you're Makki's friend, yes?" then flicked a glance over towards the woman that entered with a polite dip of her head "Good day... You'd inquired about the spell scroll, yes? I got it in yesterday afternoon..." Carefully disentangling herself from the chair, she'd slip loose and make her way over to the case at the side of the counter. Her soft hum on her breath again as she watched for the particular scroll to glow before plucking it up, perusing it faintly then making her way over to place it before the woman. She'd then glance back over at the man and add "What can I help you with today?" [12:43] Gavinox: Gave a push at the hood he was wearing. Inside, he was safe from the sun. It made him feel a little better just to be out of the direct sunlight too. "Hm?" Kneeling up he peered over the counter. "Oh hey! I remember you. Ya arnt still bein all shy bout them purdy wings are ya?" But he nodded at the mention of Makki. "Ey yeh, its why I'm 'ere I been lookin fer 'er. IS she 'ere taday?" She did have a habit of visiting the magic school. [12:47] Iesteth Windsong (gaiadarkmoor) nods and smiles charmingly to the woman "Indeed this is one of the reason I came" she answers softly while opening the scroll with delicate fingers, passing over the text fast. She cannot learn it on the spot, but at least she can make sure it is what she asked for. Her eyes moves toward the strangely speaking man, only understanding half of his words, then she return to the scroll for a few seconds. [12:52] Merialeth Windstar (caireannliadan) couldn't help but chuckle a little at his reply, her head tilting as she perused him a moment, then shook her head. The first part of his question made her flush a little, her wings pulling more snugly to her shoulders, though perhaps not quite as fiercely as they might have before. "It's... something that takes time." Meri'd leave it at that, then add "I've not seen her yet today, though she could well be curled up somewhere and I not know it." The Pooka had a -strong- talent for hiding... in unusual places. Her gaze flicked over as the woman started seemingly to study on the spot, another soft chuckle on her breath. It hadn't even occurred to her that she might be doubted on her equipment. "That one will be 50 copper..." nodding towards the page and offering another polite smile. [12:59] Gavinox: The flush made Gavin smile. It was good not to be the only one who did that. But he did say, "Its a part of ya, ya know? Ent gotta be ashamed or insecure 'bout it. Their butterful ya know? An' if someone ent like it fook em they ent got gud taste." Being filled in about Makki though he frowned when MEri said she hadnt seen the Fae. "Is there a place 'ere she likes ta stay at?" He should likely start by checking the little tree....or the book shelves...when one could shape shift they could be ANYWHERE. With all the scroll business though Gavin felt his nosiness kick in nad he walked closer their way to try and peek at the scroll himself. "Wots that fer?" [13:00] Iesteth Windsong (gaiadarkmoor) frowns a bit at the price, but nods, she search for her purse into her bag and count the few coppers she have, 50 a little more than she could afford every week. Yet she gets them out, thinking she won't have much expensive expands until some time "Here you are' she says softly while passing the coppers to the woman. She rolls the scroll and place it into her bag along with her purse quick. "It's a spell scroll" she says with a slightly forced gentle tone. "It's used to master new magic wonders" [13:05] Merialeth Windstar (caireannliadan) flushed again brighter, his candour bringing a wry grin to her lips and the soft purr of laughter to her breath. "Indeed... it doesn't bother me, I'm glad of them couldn't imagine anything different... " it was more when people started questioning them, that Meri still was affected. She'd been out of her family's auspice long enough now that the color didn't bother her anymore. "And thank you, that's kind of you to say..." she'd add belatedly for the compliment then shook her head "I heard the door open right after I flew in this morning, she may have gone out for a bit, but I'll certainly let her know when she's back that you were looking for her. As the woman spoke, Meri's gaze returned to her, dipping her head politely and taking the coins offered before replying "Thank you kindly..." then at the question, nodded in assent to her words adding "That particular one is about memories." After all, Meri didn't see any harm in explaining. WHat the woman chose to do with the scroll after? Well, [13:05] Merialeth Windstar (caireannliadan): that was up to her, and out of Meri's hands. Mostly. [13:10] Merialeth Windstar (caireannliadan): her." *) (mrf) [13:13] Gavinox: "Ya can do tha? Just buy a scroll to learn new magic?? COOL!" It had him bouncing. The prospect was neat and he might have to get hip to that. He was so excited he ignored the fake gentle tone! Meri giving her thanks he turned to her and nodded. "Yer ver; Welcome." And he meant it. What he'd said to her about the wings and the welcome. "Oh..." He was a bit deflated now. "Alrigh' thank ya. Ill get out so ya can do business then." [13:16] Iesteth Windsong (gaiadarkmoor) blinks at him when he speaks about business "I have another matter to speak about but it may wait if you want to buy a scroll" she answers softly, actually wondering if he would be a practicer. She tries to smile at him, although still forcing herself a bit. [13:19] Merialeth Windstar (caireannliadan) shook her head, not actually minding at all if he stayed, his exuberance was a pleasant change and her smile quirked at the corner of her lips "You're welcome to sit for a little while and wait in case she makes it back." She'd nod over at the chair by the window, and looked back to him. Not that she expected him to sit for hours, but she didn't mean to chase him off either. Her gaze flicking between them both, her head tilted then "Yes, if you have Magical talent, you can learn more spells through scrolls such as these... It takes time and practice of course but it's possible." She'd shift her attention back tot he woman and add "What else can I help you with?"
2nd step : Translating and Learning the scroll [10:54] Iesteth Windsong (gaiadarkmoor) is exhausted but still have some work to do. Thankfully the tower is often empty at this hour so she may get herself a good chair and read the scroll she bought a few days ago. She had no occasion to work on it before and is late on her schedule. [10:58] Iesteth Windsong (gaiadarkmoor) she gets her precious spell into her bag and opens it. Starting to study it at once. She read it before but it wasn't the same. At first she would just memorizes the formulae needing to get used to them, being extremely careful to the pronunciation as it alter's the spell. [11:02] Iesteth Windsong (gaiadarkmoor) repeats the formulae again and again, but it's no good. She stumble on words and it blocks the spell's energies, she may feel it. She pauses for now, thinking about her problem. After a few minutes of reflexions she gets it. The tongue isn't good. the spell is written in human's language, and she's more used to elf. [11:06] Iesteth Windsong (gaiadarkmoor) ponders what to do for some time. Getting an elvish scroll would be very expensive. But she may try to translate the spell. It would require a lot of attention so it won't be altered by wrong choices of words, but she feels she may do it. She gets up, and prepares to leave the tower, for she'll need books from the library for this task.[11:14] Iesteth Windsong (gaiadarkmoor) finally gets to the library and start working at once. She sits on the desk, takes a good elf reference book, place her scroll aside and write a first try of a translation. It's simple work for now, as she simply translate the meaning, not caring for the magical intonation for now. [11:16] Iesteth Windsong (gaiadarkmoor) keeps working, her back bended down over her pile of paper, the first step of work already being quite long. But she doesn't care and ignore the light of the sun changing at the window. [11:20] Iesteth Windsong (gaiadarkmoor) is finaly done with the crude translation. Now that was the easy part. She would have to correct it now. Reading it attentively to change the too crude words and making them flow right, also checking if the rhymes are good. She have to consult a few books for that, searching for old references and meaningful words. [11:28] Iesteth Windsong (gaiadarkmoor) sighs with weariness. This work is tedious. It takes way longer than the rough base and she tumble on a lot of words and formulations. Yet she very slowly manage to write something good and fluid in elvish. She tries it out in an improvised song and it seems to work. [11:32] Iesteth Windsong (gaiadarkmoor) is far from done yet. Now she needs to reread attentively the scroll she bought and pointing out the key formulae and words of powers which make the magic works. She uses a small pen and draw a line under each of them, doing the same on her traduction. Now she'll have to replace the words she choose with actual elven power words, most of them being too mundane. [11:36] Iesteth Windsong (gaiadarkmoor) makes a few tries, erase half of them and tries some more. Books wouldn't help her much now, only her own magical training may help her make the right choice. Slowly, mistake after mistake, try after try, she manage to redact something very near the original spell but in elvish. [11:40] Iesteth Windsong (gaiadarkmoor) yawns, for she's exhausted. She worked for a very long time, even in elven standard. But as she reads her work it seems to work. Better, with this translation work she's already half done with the actual learning. She rolls the bought scroll back into her bag, and do some copy work, making a clean version of her spell, without the erasing, the notes and the half written words. [11:43] Iesteth Windsong (gaiadarkmoor) uses this occasion to memorize her spell some more. Slowly she repeats the words multiple times while she copy them, making pose in order to repeat the sentence, once, twice, until every word is familiar. She did good work, the speech is fluid and easy to spell. The intonations come naturally for an elf, making it easier to harness magic power. [11:47] Iesteth Windsong (gaiadarkmoor) enjoys a pause, looking at her work with pride. It is done, it is learned. She only have to exercise now, and make sure her translation didn't altered the spell power. Since it's a memory control spell she'll need a vict... a test subject. She ponders about it for some time. Considering she could get an apprentice, or an helper to make such tests, but then she sees the tavern through the windows and decide it'll be her testing ground. But not today. Her two works of the day exhausted her too much.
