Gems and the special materials with asterisks are "roleplay opportunities" and generally, the smith should send the requesting character out to obtain the special materials on a quest.

Weapons take a number of bars based on size Small, 1 bar; Medium, 3 bars; Large, 5 bars; Massive, 8 bars. Ammunition provides 40 darts (light), 20 arrowheads (medium), or 10 bolts/javelin heads (large) per bar. A magical catalyst (wand, staff, talisman, etc.) requires 1 bar.
Armor takes a number of bars based on its size Light, 3 bars; Medium, 5 bars; Large, 8 to 15 bars (depending on size and the nature of the armor)
