Class Portion
Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): Storyweavers. This staff position is a relatively uncommon role in roleplay sims. Its not new but its not seen or utilized in secondlife as much as it should be. Im sure some of you have not seen or even heard about such before but thats why I am here today. This brings me to my opening statement;
What is a Storyweaver?
Storyweavers are staff members dedicated to being "Life" on sim. While you may see them managing sim wide events at some points, you will also see them in brief and random "interactions" with just the regular average player.
So why do they do it? What do they do?
Again, to add life. Our Storyweavers will not only take the shape as various NPCs such as, A robber, Mugger, A random little girl tugging at your skirt, a shop keep, a Deer in the woods but also may be the cause of that tree branch falling on your character or perhaps just narrating or setting the scene. "Atmospheric Presence" per say. They give a scene, our sim, a lot more... happening that you wont find anywhere else.
Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): In a lot of ways, Storyweavers are almost like Dungeon masters in a tabletop game but... not at the same time. Both are very similar.
Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): Pie over there... sitting amongst you all, is my head Storyweaver. You may have seen her in action... you may have seen Xolg, or myself. That being said, Do you, Xolg or Pie, Have anything to add to what I've just shared?
[player disruption redacted]
Xolg (liamvanaken): While we have done events and things as "monsters" we also do the NPCs and life and backgrounds for sim events, such as the opening festival and like Tae said, general life. Or in at least one case, a manifestation of the goddess... So there is a lot that we CAN do, but we are not meant to replace PC interaction or totally take over sim stories.
Pie (pieta.nowles) deflects, "Please keep the ruckus to a minimum. As Storyweavers, the job of being a Storyweaver is to aid the player-base whether it be acting as that sweet little girl you buy flowers from, a terrible spooky monster or simply describing the rain falling upon your character's head. We are here to help, not hinder the player base, that being said. And what exactly Xolg has gone on about, that is what we do. We are the lore preservers, the keepers and the plotters. It is very similar to a Dungeon Master, traditional storyteller and more, something that is very important in most RP settings."
Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): Storyweaving is done also to keep everyone on their toes in a way. To expect the unexpected. Interactions are not always negative either. We are here to entertain and add depth to your own personal stories that you hadn't planned on ever having. Because that's life. You never know whats around the corner (:
Thank you, Pie and Xolg.
Aubrie Rivera: So what kind of planning and preparation goes into preparing a scene as a Storyweaver?
Xolg (liamvanaken): I know Aly is typing, but for me..it is often like my GMing style in tabletop. I come up with an idea, jot a few notes...and run with it. Until I NEED stats for something I don't bother with them. If it is something that will never need stats, great. If it will, normal people get a 2-3 average and a bunch of 0s and 1s. Monsters I'll design a bit more stringently. And then I see where the RP goes, keeping in mind the overarching idea...but if the players I interact with do things to change that, great!
Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): For large scale plots that effect the sim as a whole: The Storyweaver team very carefully deliberates among themselves. Shared Docs are written between us all and everyone communicates throughout due to the series events that could occur. We set a plot-line for ourselves and we see where the players take it. Being in constant communication helps us all not slip up when one SW jumps in after another. Its a very delicate process and we try very hard to stay on the same page to give each of our players a cool event they deserve.
For random interactions, Its more of what we feel like playing that day... and is usually very mundane. Such as a low-level Shadeling, a pack of wolves, or other occurrences of that nature. Its meant to be kept short or short lived, just to spice things up. However. We all have set guidelines and rules to follow during these scenes.
Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): Xolg, Mentioned stats.
Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): We give each of our NPCs stats especially if they are hostile
Aubrie Rivera: And a lot of that is compiled in the Lore section on the forums, particularly the Beastiary... are all created foes/characters logged there for player reference?
Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): "Boss" creatures or NPCs will have very varied stats depending on what they are and how tough they are supposed to be. Regular average everyday NPCs stats come from a the Beast Compendium we have [Or are reconstructing since the Forum move] on forum. This is PUBLIC. Anyone will be able to see it. We have nothing to hide from any of you but basically what this means is... if I am rping a wolf and Pie is rping a wolf as Storyweavers... Our base fighting traits are all going to be the same.
Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): This keeps Storyweavers from all using different traits for no reason what so ever. Or giving a basic dog creature... 10s all across the board.
Pie (pieta.nowles): Unless it's super mega boss dog, come to steal your kibbles and bits.
Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): ^
Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): @ Aubrie - Yes all of our NPC's used, even Bosses, will be logged there.
[Player disruption redacted]
Xolg (liamvanaken): Though, things might not be logged there until after the event/death involving them. Simply to maintain some surprise.
Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): Again this is only pertaining bosses and I promise all of you that I personally will not allow any storyweaver to max out traits. All Events and Event NPC/s go through approval before being able to RP if they are not "pre-approved" or "On the Beast Compendium."
Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): Now that we're on the topic of approvals.. hostile situations... with player interactions, etc. Well you are probably wandering what a Storyweaver's rules are. Will they be allowed to kill me? Are they going to god-mod me since they are life?
Storyweaver Rules
- Storyweavers swear to confidentiality within their unit. Plots, discussions, and information between this group may not be shared with anyone, not even other staff members, unless given a OK by a Lead administrator.
- Storyweavers may not "weave" their own plot. Once you have the "Storyweaver" Tag on, you're considered working and may not be apart of anything that directly effects your character.
- Storyweavers are solely here to keep Valesk alive. They are "life" in the In character world and may take the form of anything to terrorize and harass, maybe even to enchant our fellow players but all this must be acceptable and reasonable under our sim's general rules.
- Storyweavers do not exist to "hunt" players. They are here to drive roleplay and keep players on their toes with the unexpected! This does not always have to be hostile situations. Be creative.
- Storyweavers must be given an okay or stamp of approval before diving into large scale plots, especially if following the sim's current
major storyline.
- Staff with this title are required to keep "Interaction Logs". Any encounter with players while working must be logged and posted to the designated area in the right format.
- Weavers must have CONSENT to KILL or MUTILATE a player's character. ANY and ALL Storyweaver scenes that use hostile npcs are to use the Trait system, a beast compendium will be provided to track reoccuring NPC traits to be utilized in said scenes. Dice must be used by BOTH parties.
Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): ^ This is right out of our staff rule book.
Xolg (liamvanaken): That said
Xolg (liamvanaken): We are a consent to kill sim...but we also do In Character Actions have consquences. If you stick your head in a dragon's mouth...that "Oh don't kill me" does not fly.
Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): Yes we will kill you then. Dont be an idiot.
Relanis (abaddonvernus) grumbles.
Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): If you are asking for it. You are asking for it. lol
Xolg (liamvanaken): No SW will actively hunt you down however. Outs are always offered, even if that out is running away
Xolg (liamvanaken): This applies to normal RP as well. If you play a murderer and are caught by the guards...you are very likely to be punished. And that CAN include death
Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): However we dont discourage that sort of rp... just expect... obviously, that people... PC. Not storyweavers. We dont do that lol... that people are gonna try to find you. Be smart little villains! Dont be trigger happy... plot.. plot and plot some more, cover dem tracks.
Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): Anyways back to Storyweavers
Xolg (liamvanaken): Mmhmm, exactly
Pie (pieta.nowles): The best villains are the ones you don't know are them.
[Insert random villain gloating and goofing off...lots of it.]
Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): Rewards? Did someone say rewards? ... Wait penalties? What?
Did you know our Storyweavers will drop items for you after events? Or maybe even curse or bless you during them? Or maybe nothing at all? This system is completely random with small interactions. Storyweavers may or may not let you pick up loot during or after events. Creatures they play may be skinned, collected from, searched... and you may get something, or you may not.
NPCs or situations may come with the opportunity to be cursed or even blessed, even diseased. Usually what this is a notecard passed to you, no modify and always no copy. Inside youll find all the information you need regarding whatever you have obtained.
Storyweavers also have the ability to grant permanent trait bonuses when applicable/deserved. This is usually during or after high scale events.
We are in the workings of maybe making an experience system that helps you level up easier as well. We'll see! As always, an update will be put out if anything. We may not.
Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): Oh and we have a database for everything passed to anyone during any event (: Everything is logged and sorted.
Xolg (liamvanaken): As those who fought and killed the Balwrath learned. They got a bit of fame out of it, and the smith who was on hand was able to skin the beast in such a way that he can make armor out of it. And of course the poor sap who struck the deathblow got his own reward
Merialeth Windstar (caireannliadan): ooo nice - didn't know about the armor
Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): Alright everyone... if there is no questions, comments, concerns... That about wraps it up for today (:
Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): Thank you for attending and being patient with me.
[Chatter redacted.]
Pie (pieta.nowles): OH
Pie (pieta.nowles): One note
Pie (pieta.nowles): We are currently accepting applications for new SWers, which would be junior storyweavers. If you are interested in what we do, please apply. I know we make it sound rather serious, but it is a great deal of fun.
Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): It is! It usually a hell of a lot of fun for both parties (:
[Chatter redacted.]
