Valesk Merfolk History
The Merfolk of Valesk have a long, rich, and sometimes sad history within the Isle. The Merfolk have been in Valesk since before records were kept. Living perpetually under the Island's mountains and within underwater caves, the Merfolk have made their homes within the ruins of some long lost civilization that may or may not have inhabited the island before anyone can even remember or find records of.
The Merfolk have had few instances of excitement or tragedy until the landers came. the last decade of history has been difficult for the Merfolk with the introduction of landers to a once uninhabited Island.
The waters were calm that day. Perfect sunshine that glistened on the surface of the water. But soon... Loud crashing and rumbling came from the underwater cavern and tunnels by the West side of the Island. Most Merfolk, thinking it a cave in, went to inspect and check for injuries.
Clearing the rubble from the supposed cave in to get through the tunnel revealed the loss of five Merfolk who were spending their time there. This, a tragedy the Merfolk had not experienced in many centuries, shocked and saddened them. Worse, when the bodies were dealt with and the tunnel clear, the Merfolk surfaced on the culmination of landers, construction, and the horrifying realization that this Island was no longer theirs alone.
The Monarch at the time, Queen Ishya, called a court and it was decided by Council and Kin that this would not stand. The fallen five who died from the landers construction would be reconciled and avenged in some way.
Finding it was just and proper, the Monarch agreed and with her council, she surfaced among the newly built docks within what would soon be named Lower Aberwyth.
She demanded their sovereign be sought, the waters would not stand for such offense as this theft of home and hearth. This belonged to the Merfolk, and Queen Ishya demanded it be returned.
The landers were baffled and rushed to gather their Lady and council to prevent any more offense or open war from the newly discovered Merfolk. Lady Evangeline and Queen Ishya held heated and lengthy discussions on what should be done to handle this situation.
After many hours over the period of some days, an agreement was met and tribute paid to the Queen of the Merfolk.
Sadly, this would not be the end of tragedy for the Merfolk...
The day after negotiations ended, another rumbling quake came through the waters that woke every Mer from their nests on the morning it all happened. This day was soon to be known by the fer Merfolk who survived.... The Day of Red Rivers.
The rumble had sent a wave throughout the waters, most of the sleeping creatures were enraged and rushed towards the scene of the unsettling of their habitat. The merfolk stood in their way unintentionally and this... left them at the mercy of sharks, octopus, piranha, and an innumerable measure of angered sea creatures.
As the landers slept, the Merfolk were ravaged and murdered in their nests, leaving few to survive them, the few who managed to either fight to land, or fight off whatever creature tried to eat them.
Once the night ended, and sunrise came, barely even a pick stain was left on the rivers of Valesk and the landers were left uninformed of this tragedy that they themselves had caused.
With so few left living to even remember what happened before, and many of them wanting to forget it all, most left the Island and found new homes, leaving the Island's waters nearly uninhabited and the landers were completely unaware.
A decade passed, the landers continued to develop their Island and gradually, the Merfolk began to re-inhabit the Island and a new leader emerged, calling herself Idani and Mother of the waters. Here is where the Island's real story begins and the Merfolk start making their own history.
