09 12:05] Xolg (liamvanaken): First, I wanted to welcome you all to our first class. We've been amazed and gratified to see so many faces, familiar and new, who have been coming and enjoying the sim so far! I know that our Trait system is a bit new to many, so this is the first of a few classes we wanted to do to help people understand the system we came up with, and answer any questions you might have.
[2015/06/09 12:06] Xolg (liamvanaken): For those of you who don't know me, I'm Xolg, one of the lead admins and gophers of the sim. This whole thing was a collaborative effort, but if you want to blame..errr thank...anyone for how beautiful it looks, that would be Zeriyk, Sibyl, and Aly!
[2015/06/09 12:07] Xolg (liamvanaken): Today we are going to go over the Traits themselves, and character creation. Traits, as we envisioned them, are a sort of combination of attributes and skills. So your Fighting Trait, for instance, is not just being able to fight well and wear armor effectively, but it is the ability to think of tactics, know things about weapons, recognize the maker of a specific piece of ornate armor, etc. There is also some crossover in Traits. The Knowledge skill, for instance, would allow someone to figure out many things as well. We'll get into that in a moment.
[2015/06/09 12:08] Xolg (liamvanaken): isleofvalesk.wix.com/valesk#!combat/cj9a
[2015/06/09 12:08] Xolg (liamvanaken): That is a link to our page on Traits (even though the URL says combat...silly web page). As you can see, we have a total of 9 Traits to choose from. Each one covers and does a different thing. And as we'll come to, you do not have to have any points in a Trait.
[2015/06/09 12:09] Xolg (liamvanaken): Fighting: This Trait covers fighting, defending oneself, knowledge of tactics and strategy, anything that could conceivably fall under the Trait's idea. It can be described in any number of ways, depending on how the player sees their character. One person might be an unarmed combat specialist, and another might specialize in long blades, and someone else might be a jack of all trades with weapons. You are not limited by your descriptions and RP, as far as the Trait is concerned. An unarmed combat master can pick up a sword and be just as effective...unless he chooses to RP it differently.
[2015/06/09 12:11] Xolg (liamvanaken): Magic: This Trait covers not only magical power, but knowledge of magical lore as well. The “style” of magic is determined by what types of magic someone knows. This determines how powerful spells are if needed, as well as how often someone can keep casting magic. Magic is one of the Traits that fluctuates a bit. You have your Rank, and points. Points can move up and down during the day, as a mage casts spells, but the Rank alwasy stays the same. We'll get into this more in our Magic class, but the basic rule is, if your Magic trait goes down, the "Points" number is used to determine all magical effects, -except- if you strike with a direct damage spell. As well, your points will always reset at 6am SLT (dawn).
[2015/06/09 12:11] Xolg: /me whispers and points at Tae. "You can blame her for the awesome sim"
[2015/06/09 12:16] Xolg (liamvanaken): Knowledge: This Trait covers, like it says, knowing things. But also things like research, invention, etc. This will be used by Storyweavers in plots to decipher clues, read obscure languages, and puzzle out strange happenings. This is a very broad Trait. If it is something academic, research related, and often crafting related, it falls under Knowledge when a roll needs to be made. Something that we are thinking of introducing, will be "areas of study". Places, NPCs, even players, whom you can study with in RP, to get bonuses in certain areas. For instance, a "Medical Degree", to give you +2 on Knowledge rolls related to healing
[2015/06/09 12:17] Xolg (liamvanaken): Reflexes: This Trait covers anything based on agility, speed, nimbleness, etc. Walking on a tree branch, juggling, and can even cross over to a limited degree with Shadows for someone who is more agile than thief like, letting them perform sleight of hand tricks. Reflexes is used to defend oneself when fighting, using skill with weapons and natural agility to deflect and dodge blows.
[2015/06/09 12:18] Xolg (liamvanaken): Strength: This Trait covers anything to do with lifting, brute force or applying bodily effort. This is not meant to be an indicator of raw strength, but how you USE it. A dragon, for instance, could have a strength trait of 3. It is stupidly, massively strong...but it does not apply its strength well. It might not have to roll to lift a tree...but to lift it without destroying it? Or to collapse a tree just so? Then that trait comes into play when using dice. This is the main trait for "damage dealt". Strength, to a degree, does help influence damage. Someone with a high enough strength and using smaller weapons can do a heck of a lot of damage.
[2015/06/09 12:19] Xolg (liamvanaken): Huntsman: A Trait that relates to the outdoors and surviving in them. Using bows, setting traps, tracking, knowledge of wildlife and plants, moving quietly, and the like. If using a bow or other ranged weapon, you can use Huntsman in place of Fighting to make attack rolls. Note that you are not -required- to use Huntsman on ranged attacks...only if you wish to. This allows for archer types who might be great shots, but not so great in melee or other forms of combat.
[2015/06/09 12:20] Xolg (liamvanaken): Social Standing: This Trait covers your standing in the community, buying power, etc. Note that a high rank does not mean you are a noble! It could well mean that you simply have a lot of influence and pull, or a lot of wealth to get things you want. Conversely a Noble might have a high standing, but everything he gets is on credit, because of his rank, and he has little to no actual wealth. It's all in how you want to RP it. As well, Storyweavers can award points of temporary Social Standing as rewards, treasure found, etc. To some degree, this is our "social" trait. Want to run a con? Fast talk a guard? Convince that priest that yes, you really should get a donation from the church? This is the Trait to go to. While RP is the preferred method of handling such things, the Trait should be taken into account there as well.
[2015/06/09 12:21] Xolg (liamvanaken): Resolve: This is the Trait that determines someone's strength of will, their ability to overcome adversity through mental and physical toughness. This Trait is the one used to resist damage, disease, etc. It is not a “defense”. If you are hit with a sword, you are STILL hurt. But if your Resolve holds, you can keep going, keep functioning. It enables characters to not have to be super tough, but simply to have that strength of self to resist the urge to fall down and die. This is a combination of being tough, a strong will, and natural resistance. It can be used to simulate the weedy little bastard who just will -not- go down despite being punched repeatedly, as well as the hulking brute who is just too big and dumb to lie down.
[2015/06/09 12:22] Xolg (liamvanaken): Now, before we go on, any questions? And am I going too fast? Always a catch with classes!
[2015/06/09 12:24] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): no, not too fast. I do have questions, but they don't apply exactly to this, so I'll wait to your finished
[2015/06/09 12:24] Xolg: /me smiles and nods. "Ok"
[2015/06/09 12:24] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): No questions, but I gotta say the idea of different areas of study is really cool for knowledge. Would allow some of us to be smart some ways and not others
[2015/06/09 12:24] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): yes^
[2015/06/09 12:24] Xolg (liamvanaken): Exactly what I was thinking, and it works with the idea Tae had for the infirmary
[2015/06/09 12:24] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): I have questions, but I'll wait and see if they're answered while we go along. :>
[2015/06/09 12:24] Xolg (liamvanaken): Sounds good!
[2015/06/09 12:25] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Wait, is it easy being green?
[2015/06/09 12:25] Xolg (liamvanaken): Ok, moving on! Character Creation. And yes, yes it is actually
[2015/06/09 12:25] Xolg (liamvanaken): The paint itches a bit though
[2015/06/09 12:25] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): i was so confused for a second XD
[2015/06/09 12:25] Xolg (liamvanaken): When creating your character, all Traits, start at 0. Everyone gets 30 points {Exception: children begin with 15} to divide as they see fit among any of the traits, with the following restrictions:
[2015/06/09 12:25] Xolg (liamvanaken): No trait can start over Rank 7.
Only one Trait can be at Rank 7 to start with no other Trait over Rank 5. OR Two Traits can start at Rank 6, with no others over Rank 5.
Traits and their rank must always be stated in your profile picks after approval.
[2015/06/09 12:26] Xolg (liamvanaken): Now, that said, and I'll mention this again i a bit...racial bonuses for natives CAN exceed this
[2015/06/09 12:27] Xolg (liamvanaken): We ask for the traits and spells in a pick as it is easier on Storyweavers to see things, and for things like combat to flow smoothly. Especially if you choose to not use the dice and simply compare traits for things, it helps to be able to see them. That said! Anyone found metagaming information or godmodding based on Trait knowledge WILL be dealt with.
[2015/06/09 12:28] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): How many lashes?
[2015/06/09 12:29] Xolg (liamvanaken): Generally we apply our system of punishment. Stern talking tos and temp bans, slowly working up to a permanent ban if behavior continues. Exceptions are made of course, but we would rather someone learn from things and become a better RPer than just throw them out.
[2015/06/09 12:30] Xolg (liamvanaken): Following is a link to our character creation page:
isleofvalesk.wix.com/valesk#!characterapplication/c1pd
As you can see, we've tried to include links on that page to most of the pages you might need to help create a character and make decisions to best emulate what you want to RP.
[2015/06/09 12:30] Xolg (liamvanaken): We have a number of Native Races to choose from. Right now, those are Humans, Elves, Drow, Garou, Mer, and Fae. The Native races are the ones that have been on the island since the beginning, in one way or another, and are the ones most related to the overall world. There -are- other races, but many of those, despite numbers, are relative newcomers to the world and do not have the same connection to it as the Natives.
[2015/06/09 12:32] Xolg (liamvanaken): Native races get trait bonuses as well as gifts. These bonuses CAN push you past our starting trait limit, if you choose that. As well some gifts have slight bonuses to Traits, and can do the same. Do read your gifts carefully though. Some give a bonus, but only in specific circumstances, and so do NOT raise the Trait itself.
[2015/06/09 12:32] Xolg (liamvanaken): You -can- raise your traits in play! They are not set in stone. However, it can be a lengthy process, though worth it. There is a thread on our forums ( isleofvaleskforums.lefora.com/ ), which I encourage everyone to use anyways, to submit requests for trait improvement.
[2015/06/09 12:33] Xolg (liamvanaken): I will not copy and paste it here, but on the Trait page, towards the bottom, is the format we ask you to use for the requests. Just copy and paste it into the forum thread you create and fill in the info.
[2015/06/09 12:34] Xolg (liamvanaken): One of our hard working admins will get back to you as soon as possible with what you need to do. This could be a mix of RP logs about training, quests, special tasks...and then once that is all set up, you have a number of weeks of IC training equal to the new Trait Rank. After that point and once all logs are recieved, your trait is one point higher.
[2015/06/09 12:35] Xolg (liamvanaken): Any questions on traits or characters?
[2015/06/09 12:36] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): I do
[2015/06/09 12:36] Xolg (liamvanaken): Sure thing
[2015/06/09 12:37] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): um.. if you char is a native race, but new to the isle, can you still claim the native bonus(es)?
[2015/06/09 12:37] Xolg (liamvanaken): Yes
[2015/06/09 12:37] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): And.. How would someone meta w/ traits? Could you give an example, please?
[2015/06/09 12:37] Xolg (liamvanaken): We did not want to have admins and app handlers trying to figure out "ok, new? not new?" and just decided that if you were of a native race, you got them
[2015/06/09 12:38] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Probably by going up to them and exploiting their weaknesses without knowing them IC Tei
[2015/06/09 12:38] Xolg (liamvanaken): Well, ideally it won't ever be an issue. I don't see Traits so much the issue as using weaknesses, like Denny said
[2015/06/09 12:38] Xolg (liamvanaken): Which they should NOT know without IC stuff
[2015/06/09 12:38] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): okay, that sounds pretty moron-proof
[2015/06/09 12:38] Xolg (liamvanaken): Ideally
[2015/06/09 12:39] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): Also.. one more.. I heard a rumor, that we can restat traits once?
[2015/06/09 12:39] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): Since they've been changing during beta
[2015/06/09 12:40] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): I'll have to do that at some point lol. Back when I did mine there weren't trait bonuses linked to the Racial Gifts
[2015/06/09 12:40] Xolg (liamvanaken): Yes. We allow everyone a free reroll. And if something gets added that massively changes things, anyone affected would get a free reroll if they want
[2015/06/09 12:40] Xolg (liamvanaken): That won't require a reroll Denny. Just let us know which traits you have that had bonuses and we'll ge them added
[2015/06/09 12:41] Xolg (liamvanaken): It would be a "free" one, if things changed that gave you something you did not once have.
[2015/06/09 12:41] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Alright, will do. Not now of course. You're teaching. I'll find you after class ;D haha
[2015/06/09 12:41] Xolg: /me laughs
[2015/06/09 12:41] Xolg (liamvanaken): Any other questions?
[2015/06/09 12:42] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): I made a nc of lecture. if anyone wants it, pm after class
[2015/06/09 12:43] Xolg (liamvanaken): Excellent, thank you!
[2015/06/09 12:43] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Yayyyy!
[2015/06/09 12:44] Xolg (liamvanaken): Anything folks would like to see covered in further classes on this? We do have one coming up on Combat and on Magic specifically as well
[2015/06/09 12:46] Xolg: /me grins. "Nope? Ok good, I'm guessing either things made a heck of a lot of sense originally, or the class covered questions!"
[2015/06/09 12:46] Ayra Mazi: Was a good class
[2015/06/09 12:46] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): /me shovels food in her mouth and puts a thumbs up
[2015/06/09 12:47] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Hahaha!
[2015/06/09 12:47] Xolg (liamvanaken): Thank you all for coming! Tomorrow we'll have one on Combat. I don't want to deluge people with classes, but being a "new system" seemed a good idea. We'll plan to hold at least one of each class a month for new folks too.
[2015/06/09 12:47] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Oh yes it's brilliant when just starting out!
[2015/06/09 12:48] Xolg (liamvanaken): And we don't intend on it being a "set" thing. Poor Tae. I have too many ideas I keep dropping on her, and we DO want to see player submissions. Someone already posted ideas for a new spell, which has been added and they will get a chance to learn it as a sort of custom version as the creator.
[2015/06/09 12:49] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): I have some spell ideas haha but I'll hold off on those for JUSSSST a bit
[2015/06/09 12:50] Xolg: /me laughs and nods
[2015/06/09 12:50] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Since right now you guys are just...swamped
[2015/06/09 12:50] Xolg (liamvanaken): Feel free to submit things as ideas, we do want them, to make players a living part of the sim and how it plays out
[2015/06/09 12:50] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): Once we're out of beta, any ideas such as new spells and races... etc, great place to post them is our forum!
[2015/06/09 12:50] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): And i'm swamped too. With drugs. <.>
[2015/06/09 12:50] Xolg: /me grins and nods
[2015/06/09 12:50] Xolg (liamvanaken): Exactly
[2015/06/09 12:51] Xolg (liamvanaken): We have a space on the forums just for that!
[2015/06/09 12:51] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): /me nods
[2015/06/09 12:51] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): For drugs? YAY!
[2015/06/09 12:51] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): LMAO
[2015/06/09 12:51] Xolg (liamvanaken): Hahahaha
[2015/06/09 12:52] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): anyone else want a notecard?
[2015/06/09 12:52] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): Toss it here?
[2015/06/09 12:52] Second Life: ѕкץяαн ℓuиαзdgз (lilmia91) is online
[2015/06/09 12:52] Second Life: кαѕımıяα тяαναgιio-νãdυvã (raegenlocke) is online
[2015/06/09 12:52] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): Ill throw it up on forum somewhere for others.
[2015/06/09 12:53] Xolg (liamvanaken): yay!
[2015/06/09 12:53] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): Thank you!
[2015/06/09 12:53] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): np
[2015/06/09 12:53] Cazpian Tiernan (cazpian): And thanks Xlog for hosting the Class
[2015/06/09 12:53] Xolg (liamvanaken): thank you all for coming and I hope it was helpful!
[2015/06/09 12:54] /me Kavik Hadurstar: applauds
[2015/06/09 12:55] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): I was totes afk 'cause kid came home
[2015/06/09 12:55] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Scrolled real fast.
[2015/06/09 12:55] Xolg (liamvanaken): No worries at all! RL first
[2015/06/09 12:55] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): I did have a question though.
[2015/06/09 12:55] Xolg (liamvanaken): Sure thing!
[2015/06/09 12:56] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): /me golf claps
[2015/06/09 12:56] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): What is an 'average' stat. If you took an average.. well, for the sake of understanding, an average peasant, an average middle-classer and an average nobleman, what would their average, say, knowledge stat look like?
[2015/06/09 12:57] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Like, would an average peasant npc have a knowledge of 1, 2, or 3?
[2015/06/09 12:57] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Etc.
[2015/06/09 12:57] Xolg (liamvanaken): Ahh! A good question,. Human average is 3-4, with training. So a farmer might have Strength 4 (medieval farmers were not pushovers), but a Fighting of only 1
[2015/06/09 12:58] Xolg (liamvanaken): And yeah a peasant knowledge is likely 2-3 with "skills" in an area of expertise like animal husbandry
[2015/06/09 12:58] Xolg (liamvanaken): Speaking of..
[2015/06/09 12:59] Xolg (liamvanaken): That is something else you can apply for, just like spells. I'm still working on ideas fro Aly, but once it is up, you can apply to learn things. Like with the infirmary for medical training and such
[2015/06/09 12:59] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Well, one of the things I was looking at (since I haven't rolled here yet, actually), was trying to figure out what the average was.
[2015/06/09 12:59] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): [We also will have a NPC / Beast Compendium on forum holding traits of reoccuring NPCs you might see Storytellers use or in quests]
[2015/06/09 12:59] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Where can I learn how to preform a proper Kansas City Shuffle?
[2015/06/09 12:59] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): Storyweavers*
[2015/06/09 13:00] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): If you remove both shadows and magic from the list and distribute the points evenly, you can put about 3-4 points in each trait.
[2015/06/09 13:00] Xolg: /me points at Tae
[2015/06/09 13:00] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): (and oh, thanks!)
[2015/06/09 13:01] Xolg (liamvanaken): And exactly. Human average was meant to be 3-4, with exceptional people (ie the PCs) having higher traits in areas
[2015/06/09 13:02] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): At the cost of being lower than average in others, however, and with the same stat allocation as those belonging to other races.
[2015/06/09 13:02] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): I'm not griping, sorry if it seems that way, I just needed a basis for comparison if I had any stats lower than 3.
[2015/06/09 13:03] Xolg (liamvanaken): True. Focused expertise
[2015/06/09 13:03] Xolg (liamvanaken): And some things, like Magic, someone might have 0s in
[2015/06/09 13:03] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Right, which is why I said I excluded shadows and magic earlier.
[2015/06/09 13:03] Xolg (liamvanaken): They just have no aptitude or have never trained
[2015/06/09 13:03] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): I'm 0's across the board in combat skills lol
[2015/06/09 13:03] Xolg: /me grins
[2015/06/09 13:04] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Which allowed me to make my average for the ones I actually use 5
[2015/06/09 13:04] Xolg (liamvanaken): Yup. We wanted people to make choices and to be able to define their characters
[2015/06/09 13:04] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Which is so amazing <3
[2015/06/09 13:05] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): It's great not having characters be great at everything
[2015/06/09 13:05] Xolg (liamvanaken): And even a 2 is not bad. Teenager with a 2 Strength won a round of the arm wrestling
[2015/06/09 13:05] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): LOL
[2015/06/09 13:05] ѕкץяαн ℓuиαзdgз (lilmia91): yah..
[2015/06/09 13:05] Xolg: /me grins at Sky
[2015/06/09 13:05] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): He must have had the Blessed by the Gods gift though
[2015/06/09 13:05] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): XD I'm not terribly worried about winning shit, it's more of trying to figure out how my stats will influence how I play the character.
[2015/06/09 13:05] ѕкץяαн ℓuиαзdgз (lilmia91): yes i think he was
[2015/06/09 13:05] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Lucky summbitch
[2015/06/09 13:06] ѕкץяαн ℓuиαзdgз (lilmia91): lol
[2015/06/09 13:06] Xolg (liamvanaken): Oh definitely understood
[2015/06/09 13:06] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Well I think more Endari
[2015/06/09 13:06] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): It's how you plan to play your character
[2015/06/09 13:06] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Deciding how you distribute your stats
[2015/06/09 13:07] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): So if you really want to play a certain type, you focus on certain skills during creation
[2015/06/09 13:07] Xolg (liamvanaken): Mmhmm, exactly
[2015/06/09 13:07] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Rather than assign them and play it as you assigned them later
[2015/06/09 13:07] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): I think that's why the reroll is so important
[2015/06/09 13:07] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): I created my character, and now after playing a few days, thhere are things I want to tweak
[2015/06/09 13:08] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): I think I understand, if 2-3 is the average human in any particular area. I was worried that it was more like.. 4 or 5 was the average.
[2015/06/09 13:08] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Then if I wanted a well rounded character, I'd actually be less than average in every area.
[2015/06/09 13:08] Xolg (liamvanaken): Nah, that high is someone pretty good at what they do
[2015/06/09 13:09] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): But that makes sense, I just wanted to double check.
[2015/06/09 13:09] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): And 10 is a legend at it lol
[2015/06/09 13:09] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): But nobody is a 10...Yet
[2015/06/09 13:09] Xolg (liamvanaken): While it is not quite how the HUD works, think of a Trait
of 5 as being a +50 on d100 rolls. NOT the average person at all.
[2015/06/09 13:09] Cazpian Tiernan (cazpian): Plus after a while we can rank up in Traits
[2015/06/09 13:09] Xolg (liamvanaken): Exactly
[2015/06/09 13:09] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): So I suppose as soon as you start really putting any points into something you kind of go above average
[2015/06/09 13:10] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): 0 in my mind is average
[2015/06/09 13:10] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): due to it being a standard roll
[2015/06/09 13:10] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): in terms of dice
[2015/06/09 13:10] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): What I'll probably do is distribute 3 into everything that I think my character will have, and then start tweaking from there.
[2015/06/09 13:10] Cazpian Tiernan (cazpian): that makes sense
[2015/06/09 13:10] Cazpian Tiernan (cazpian): Z
[2015/06/09 13:11] Xolg (liamvanaken): Mmhmm
[2015/06/09 13:11] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Yah thats a great place to start
[2015/06/09 13:11] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): One more question; if I roll a human, is it required that I take a limitation? I only ask because I saw in the garou portion of the website that it says explicitly that a limitation must be taken, but not as a human. I may take unlucky anyway for shits and giggles, but was just curious.
[2015/06/09 13:11] Xolg (liamvanaken): One of our standard poisons is a target of 70 to resist. Vs Resolve. Someone with a 2 or 3, is likely to be affected by it. Someone with a Resolve 5 can throw off the effects easily
[2015/06/09 13:12] Xolg (liamvanaken): And if you take any gifts, yes. If you do NOT take gifts, you don't have to
[2015/06/09 13:12] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Okay, was just clarifying.
[2015/06/09 13:13] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): But some of the gifts are pretty great
[2015/06/09 13:13] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): O.o does it not say on the website?
[2015/06/09 13:13] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): In fact, when I reroll, I may change one of mine >.>
[2015/06/09 13:13] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): It says on the site that you CAN choose 2 gifts and one limitation
[2015/06/09 13:14] Xolg: /me grins. "ya it should say on the site, I thought"
[2015/06/09 13:14] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): But it doesn't say whether thats required
[2015/06/09 13:14] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): /me flips one of these chairs and goes to edit, " Damn youuu! I shall check. >"
[2015/06/09 13:14] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Right.
[2015/06/09 13:14] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): That's what I was checking.
[2015/06/09 13:14] Xolg (liamvanaken): Oh yeah, it does
[2015/06/09 13:14] Xolg (liamvanaken): It is good, Tae
[2015/06/09 13:14] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): May might be a better word if it's not mandatory
[2015/06/09 13:14] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): /me double checks just in case cause shes a nervous nelly.
[2015/06/09 13:15] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): I'd phrase it, may choose up to two gifts, but must take a limitation if any gifts are taken?
[2015/06/09 13:15] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Something like that.
[2015/06/09 13:15] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): Gifts are not mandatory but if you take a gift you have to take a limitation. Ill edit to clarify.
[2015/06/09 13:15] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Because people like me are fucking idiots and it needs to be spelled out clearly for me.
[2015/06/09 13:15] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): You are not an idiot
[2015/06/09 13:15] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Hahaha it'd probably have confused me too if I wasn't so pumped to take limitations
[2015/06/09 13:15] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): I fell on my face yesterday three times and tried to jump out of a car driving 50mph.
[2015/06/09 13:15] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Oh, and gifts too
[2015/06/09 13:16] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Are you absolutely sure I'm not an idiot?
[2015/06/09 13:16] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): But I took 2 limitations for some reason >.>
[2015/06/09 13:16] Xolg: /me chuckles. "Yeah, that is part of beta, to catch things!"
[2015/06/09 13:16] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): Reckless?
[2015/06/09 13:16] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): I have a question?
[2015/06/09 13:16] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): I drank myself into intoxication.
[2015/06/09 13:16] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): ^
[2015/06/09 13:16] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Thats how it usually works
[2015/06/09 13:16] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Clearly I'm an idiot.
[2015/06/09 13:16] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Because I know what teh drink does. <_<
[2015/06/09 13:16] Xolg (liamvanaken): And fire away!
[2015/06/09 13:17] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): In some of the table top games I've played, if you took an extra limitation, flaw, etc.. You could add points/gifts/etc? Would that be something we could look forward to in the future here? or no?
[2015/06/09 13:17] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): I wonder how shit would work if I picked Unlucky AND Blessed by the Gods. Hilarity ensues?
[2015/06/09 13:17] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): I think that applies to certain limitations on certain races
[2015/06/09 13:18] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): But not all
[2015/06/09 13:18] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): It's more for the really severe limits
[2015/06/09 13:18] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Unless I thought I saw something I didn't
[2015/06/09 13:18] Xolg (liamvanaken): Probably not, but it is something to consider down the line
[2015/06/09 13:19] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Lol or maybe I was just reading an article on Min/Maxing
[2015/06/09 13:19] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): Yes, I took one of those "severe" limits, and got an extra gift, but if you say took 2 extra limitations, could you gain a gift? This is more for curiosity. Not interested in doing it
[2015/06/09 13:20] Xolg (liamvanaken): Something we might consider in the future, but it leads too often to people trying to min max a system, and we wanted it as simple as possible
[2015/06/09 13:23] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): yeah, I agree, but was just curious
[2015/06/09 13:23] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): /me plays with Sky's hair feathers
[2015/06/09 13:23] Xolg (liamvanaken): We -hopefully- have a very simple system that willl, once people are used to it, flow very smootly and most unnoticed in play
[2015/06/09 13:24] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): It is simple. It doesn't look simple at first, but it really is
[2015/06/09 13:24] ѕкץяαн ℓuиαзdgз (lilmia91): /me grins at Denny
[2015/06/09 13:24] Xolg (liamvanaken): that was my hope
[2015/06/09 13:24] Xolg (liamvanaken): Learning curve that once you see it and play it just fades into the background
[2015/06/09 13:25] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Out of curiosity, if a garou goes crinos, what do they gain in stats, assuming they gain in stats. 'cause otherwise an average fella' might not have bad odds against one. ;o Which is confusing to me 'cause crinos garou should nom everything.
[2015/06/09 13:25] Xolg (liamvanaken): Just what is listed on the garou page for Crinos form
[2015/06/09 13:26] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): /me needs to get some silver >.>
[2015/06/09 13:26] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Before Relanis looses his temper
[2015/06/09 13:26] Xolg (liamvanaken): in Crinos form they are massively strong, able to lift as much as five men. They have claws in this form that count as Large weapons. Claws and teeth in Lupis count as Medium weapons. In both forms, their hides are thick and give Medium armor
[2015/06/09 13:26] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): They get a racial bonus and I think they get some sort of weapon like claws? Right Xolg?
[2015/06/09 13:26] Xolg (liamvanaken): Mmhmm
[2015/06/09 13:26] Xolg (liamvanaken): Was just grabbing it
[2015/06/09 13:26] Xolg (liamvanaken): Anything "extra" is either gifts or magic
[2015/06/09 13:27] ѕкץяαн ℓuиαзdgз (lilmia91): ^
[2015/06/09 13:27] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): I was just wondering if there was a numerical addition to their stats.
[2015/06/09 13:27] Xolg (liamvanaken): Only the base one of +1 Strength and Huntsman
[2015/06/09 13:27] Xolg (liamvanaken): but that applies to all forms
[2015/06/09 13:27] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): 'cause five times strength means that if a peasant has a strength of 4, they suddenly have 20 strength by that reasoning.
[2015/06/09 13:28] Xolg (liamvanaken): In terms of lifting and such, yes
[2015/06/09 13:28] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Assuming that it would take five peasants to lift what they could lift.
[2015/06/09 13:28] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): How much can they lift, bro? >
[2015/06/09 13:28] Xolg (liamvanaken): damage wise, that is accounted for by the claws doing damage as a Large weapon
[2015/06/09 13:28] Xolg (liamvanaken): They could easily flip a wagon or drag it
[2015/06/09 13:29] Xolg (liamvanaken): Probably "toss" is short distances
[2015/06/09 13:29] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Are there dragons? I don't mean as a playable race. But a fantasy world has to have dragons. >
[2015/06/09 13:29] Xolg (liamvanaken): Yes. There are.
[2015/06/09 13:29] Xolg (liamvanaken): Just not playable
[2015/06/09 13:29] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Do I gain stat bonuses if I eat their heart?
[2015/06/09 13:29] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): LOL
[2015/06/09 13:29] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Quest begin. >
[2015/06/09 13:29] Xolg (liamvanaken): Our Storweavers are in charge of them, and if you manage to kill one, who knows!
[2015/06/09 13:29] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): You absorb their soul
[2015/06/09 13:29] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): Oh speaking of Storyweavers
[2015/06/09 13:29] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): And learn a shout
[2015/06/09 13:29] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): FUS ROH
[2015/06/09 13:29] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): oh
[2015/06/09 13:29] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): do any of you know what they are?
[2015/06/09 13:29] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): k.
[2015/06/09 13:30] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): They are the best?
[2015/06/09 13:30] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): The evil fuckers who play wizards when they play D&D?
[2015/06/09 13:30] Xolg (liamvanaken): Ah yes, kinda a new concept to a lot of sims. Well, not new, but...
[2015/06/09 13:30] Xolg (liamvanaken): haha, pretty much
[2015/06/09 13:30] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): "You are the besstt arounnddd...." *coughs*
[2015/06/09 13:30] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): I really like having storyweavers <3
[2015/06/09 13:30] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): I think they had stuff like that back in Legacies.
[2015/06/09 13:30] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Makes things much more alive
[2015/06/09 13:30] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Which I liked.
[2015/06/09 13:31] Xolg (liamvanaken): I agree. I know that RL has been keeping some of ours busy, but you will see them about soon enough
[2015/06/09 13:31] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): I do have a question actually. Kinda dumb
[2015/06/09 13:31] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): /me plays jaws theme every time she sees a SW
[2015/06/09 13:32] ѕкץяαн ℓuиαзdgз (lilmia91): yes when you see them its usually they are up to something
[2015/06/09 13:32] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): What happens if a Promise Bound fae makes a promise to keep a secret?
[2015/06/09 13:32] ѕкץяαн ℓuиαзdgз (lilmia91): no questions are dumb
[2015/06/09 13:32] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): But is then asked about it by someone else?
[2015/06/09 13:32] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Are they just doomed? Lol
[2015/06/09 13:32] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Two can keep a secret if...
[2015/06/09 13:32] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): They malfunction and explode like the robots they are
[2015/06/09 13:32] Xolg (liamvanaken): Well, they don't HAVE to tell their secret
[2015/06/09 13:32] ѕкץяαн ℓuиαзdgз (lilmia91): /me snorts
[2015/06/09 13:33] Xolg (liamvanaken): Nothing keeps a Fae from being VERY creative with the truth
[2015/06/09 13:33] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): So they just have to work around it then
[2015/06/09 13:33] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Okay, another question.
[2015/06/09 13:33] Xolg (liamvanaken): Mmhm
[2015/06/09 13:33] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Lets say you got a peasant who has a specialized job, like, they're a hunter and they hunt animals with bows. What would their huntsman stat be?
[2015/06/09 13:34] Xolg (liamvanaken): Anywhere from 3-5 depending on training and age. A really special NPC might come up to 6 or 7. Robin Hood is likely a 9 or 10
[2015/06/09 13:35] ѕкץяαн ℓuиαзdgз (lilmia91): and to have a bow you have to have strength 3 correct?
[2015/06/09 13:35] Xolg (liamvanaken): To use it effectively
[2015/06/09 13:35] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Which makes my huntsman stat rather
useless Lmfao
[2015/06/09 13:35] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): this i did not know
[2015/06/09 13:35] Xolg (liamvanaken): You can still use the bow
[2015/06/09 13:35] Xolg (liamvanaken): What is your Strength, Denny?
[2015/06/09 13:35] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Lol I can! But the arrow will just hit me in the face
[2015/06/09 13:35] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): 0
[2015/06/09 13:36] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): XD
[2015/06/09 13:36] Xolg (liamvanaken): Your bow would do damage as a light weapon instead of medium is all
[2015/06/09 13:36] ѕкץяαн ℓuиαзdgз (lilmia91): ahh okay
[2015/06/09 13:36] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Ohhh oka
[2015/06/09 13:36] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Good to know! Thanks!
[2015/06/09 13:36] Xolg (liamvanaken): You are a great shot, but you have a HORRID pull on the string
[2015/06/09 13:37] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): might want to get a cross bow for better reach and damage:D
[2015/06/09 13:37] Xolg (liamvanaken): She would still do light damage
[2015/06/09 13:37] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Lol thats a heavy weapon isn't it?
[2015/06/09 13:37] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): oh dk
[2015/06/09 13:37] Xolg (liamvanaken): She would have trouble holding it steady
[2015/06/09 13:37] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): i just know from rl experience
[2015/06/09 13:37] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): I'm too weak to use a recurve or compound bow so I use a cross bow
[2015/06/09 13:37] Xolg (liamvanaken): Again, good shot, but the strength means it is more likely to not be as accurate a strike
[2015/06/09 13:38] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): cause i can pull it with two hands and my feet
[2015/06/09 13:38] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): The pulling back wouldn't be the problem with the CB
[2015/06/09 13:38] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): It'd be aiming
[2015/06/09 13:38] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): aw.. yes, I guess thats right
[2015/06/09 13:38] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Because she'd not be strong enough to hold it up
[2015/06/09 13:38] Xolg (liamvanaken): ya, that is the one drawback realism wise here. Crossbows are NASTY if they hit, and do a bit more damage...but just the way we did the system means you lose some of that
[2015/06/09 13:38] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): they don't have hollow frames or caron fiber in medieval times lol
[2015/06/09 13:38] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): carbon*
[2015/06/09 13:39] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Well it just means Xolg
[2015/06/09 13:39] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): If she hits someone
[2015/06/09 13:39] Xolg (liamvanaken): A crossbow can punch right through plate armor, but...you have to be able to lift and winch the thing
[2015/06/09 13:39] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): She doesn't hit where she aims
[2015/06/09 13:39] Xolg (liamvanaken): exactly
[2015/06/09 13:39] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): She hits their leg rather than their chest
[2015/06/09 13:39] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): And does less damage
[2015/06/09 13:39] Xolg (liamvanaken): Glancing angles on heavy armor.
[2015/06/09 13:39] Xolg (liamvanaken): She CAN still whittle down that armor and be pretty deadly though
[2015/06/09 13:39] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): And I have people to winch it for me >.>
[2015/06/09 13:39] Xolg (liamvanaken): Hahahaha
[2015/06/09 13:40] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Actually Xolg
[2015/06/09 13:41] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): I was reading a lot of text on crossbows a few months back when I read a historical fiction novel that's supposed to be every authentic.
[2015/06/09 13:41] Xolg: /me grins and nods. "Part of what we are going with is a mix of "realism" and "what people expect from fiction/movies" too. Because fantasy"
[2015/06/09 13:42] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): The Catholic church did ban crossbows, but not because they could puncture plate; even a direct hit on plate generally did not penetrate beyond 5 yards.
[2015/06/09 13:42] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Err, if fired beyond 5 yards.
[2015/06/09 13:42] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): They were banned because anyone could use them.
[2015/06/09 13:42] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Lmfao it's good not to go too realistic or too fantasy
[2015/06/09 13:42] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): Well, sure.
[2015/06/09 13:42] Xolg (liamvanaken): Very true. They did not take tons of skill. Denny would be better off with her longbow
[2015/06/09 13:43] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): I just wanted to state the fact for the record. ;o
[2015/06/09 13:43] Second Life: кαѕımıяα тяαναgιio-νãdυvã (raegenlocke) is offline
[2015/06/09 13:43] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Probably. Again it's unlikely she'll ever use it though because part of her build is simply to avoid any kind of combat
[2015/06/09 13:43] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): And if forced her magic would be more effective
[2015/06/09 13:44] Xolg (liamvanaken): Mmhmm, and have body shields
[2015/06/09 13:44] Xolg (liamvanaken): Folks like Denny and Equi's ideas were why I added in that bit about defending people in combat
[2015/06/09 13:44] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): The huntsman is all about tracking really for denny. About her knowledge regarding hunting wolves, rather than practical application or weapon use
[2015/06/09 13:44] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Yes the defending people is great
[2015/06/09 13:44] Teididh a Cridhe (kavikhadurstar): got a question on bows.. if 0 is avg (based on roll like tia said), then shouldn't someone w/ 0 strength be able to use a recurve well enough to kill a still target?
[2015/06/09 13:44] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): I can use people as meat shields with my SS lol
[2015/06/09 13:45] Taegen V'hoori (alyxz.marenwolf): Okay im leaving you. Have fun with the rest of the questions and topics. I gotta go shopping for the tourne tonight! <3
[2015/06/09 13:45] Endarl (alistair.greymyst): If I have a social standing of 8, does that mean I get to be a Duke?
[2015/06/09 13:45] Xolg (liamvanaken): They can. They are just doing light damage, because they can not get proper pull. but against an unarmored target? That is a wound per hit
[2015/06/09 13:46] The Den Mother (valerievixxen): Lol if only. Then I could get my Duchess title back
[2015/06/09 13:46] Xolg (liamvanaken): Only if you apped for it. Social Status might be because you are a rich merchant, a feared crime boss, or a well known bard
[2015/06/09 13:46] Xolg (liamvanaken): Not always a title
